Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing for those struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, relationship difficulties, and substance and impulse control issues. After a thorough assessment, I determine which therapies are evidence-supported to help with your specific difficulties. We discuss treatment options to determine which therapy you are most interested in. If it seems like you would benefit most from a treatment I don't provide, I will provide you with a referral for the most appropriate treatment.

Theodosia Daflos Practice Description
At the start of therapy, we will begin with an assessment to determine if Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) will be helpful with the specific difficulties you have been experiencing. We will discuss what each therapy will involve, how many sessions may be needed, and set clear targets that will help us assess throughout our work together if therapy is working. I believe everyone should have access to therapy, regardless of their financial status. If cost is an issue for you, please feel free to discuss this with me. If I’m unable to help you for any reason, I will work on finding an appropriate referral for you. Due to health issues, I will continue to be practicing via online therapy as long as risk of COVID19 infection remains significant.
