Infidelity can be one of the most painful experiences a couple faces, often leaving behind deep feelings of betrayal, anger, shame, and uncertainty about the future. As an Adlerian couples therapist, I help partners understand not only what happened, but also the relationship dynamics that made healing so difficult. Whether your goal is to rebuild trust and reconnect or to gain clarity about the future of your relationship, I provide a structured, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where honest conversations can take place. Together, we work toward rebuilding accountability, forgiveness when appropriate, healthier communication, and a renewed foundation of mutual respect, cooperation, equality, intimacy and desire, and hope.

Infidelity creates a trauma in the relationship that subsequently creates a form of PTSD in the injured partner. I use the Gottman Method for Infidelity as the process for helping couples heal from the devastation of infidelity. As painful as infidelity is, I have seen many many couples heal and create a relationship that is stronger and more mutually satisfying after they have done the hard work of accountability, trust building and relationship repair.

Psychologist, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist
I have worked with many couples where this has been an issue. The first thing that must be handled, if the partner who was cheated on wants the relationship to continue, is to determine if there is real commitment on both sides, and if both are willing and able to have real, meaningful discussions about what was not working for each of them prior to the affair.

Infidelity rips trust. Not only is it cheating on a spouse or significant other, but the secrecy is what can tear a hole in the marriage or relationship that seems irreparable . However I know how to help couples and support them as they do the hard work of going through the phases of forgiveness, growing in understanding of themselves and each other and eventually reestablishing trust. Merrisa Dawn Santos
Licensed Professional Counselor, MA, LPC, NCC, CCTMHP, CCTP
In supporting individuals dealing with infidelity in their relationship or marriage, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space for them to process their emotions and navigate the complexities of their situation. Through therapy, we explore the underlying factors contributing to the infidelity, such as communication issues, unmet needs, or underlying relationship problems. I offer strategies to cope with intense emotions such as anger, betrayal, or grief, and facilitate open and honest communication between partners. Additionally, we work on rebuilding trust, setting boundaries, and exploring the possibility of forgiveness and reconciliation if desired. My goal is to support individuals in making informed decisions about their relationship and ultimately finding healing and resolution, whether that involves rebuilding the relationship or moving forward separately.

Tim Jenkins
Counselor/Therapist, LCPC
Through the twenty year private practice career as a counselor, I have had a special interest in helping couples that were on the brink of divorce or separation. Many of them found themselves here due to infidelity. It is a special thing to help people to first understand infidelity; why it happens and what to do about it. Primarily, partners often feel that infidelity is their fault: that they did not do something well enough or that they are not attractive, pretty or handsome enough. That is the furthest thing from the truth. Infidelity most often happens due to sexual addiction, or due to the lack of feeling happy with one's self. When another shines their warm light of attention on you, and pays you lots of compliments, it can be very addictive to achieve that dopamine rush. There is also the element of the Coolidge effect. There is a biological thing that happens in animals. Males, (and to some extent females of the species) experience renewed sexual interest whenever a new partner is introduced.
This phenomenon comes about from an anecdote about Calvin Coolidge when he was President. The President and Mrs. Coolidge were being shown around an experimental government farm walking with two separate groups of reporters. When the first lady, whom was known to have a lot of moxie, came to the chicken yard she noticed that a rooster was mating very frequently. She asked the attendant how often that happened and was told, "Dozens of times each day." Mrs. Coolidge said, "Tell that to the President when he comes by." Upon being told this, President Coolidge asked, "Same hen every time?" The reply was, "Oh, no, Mr. President, a different hen every time." President: "Tell that to Mrs. Coolidge."
