Kansas City, Missouri therapist: Merritt Posten Benz, licensed clinical social worker
Family Systems

Merritt Posten Benz

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LSCSW, CDWF, MCLC
At the start of the Pandemic, I was skeptical that online/virtual therapy would be of the same quality and connection as in person/in office counseling. I was pleasantly surprised that the work did translate and now I am grateful that I can offer high quality services to a wider group of couples and individuals. Even though I do see a handful of clients in man office, majority of my clients have preferred to meet virtually and appreciate the connivence and comfort of having sessions from the location of their own choosing. The quality of your life is crafted from your decisions. Whether those decisions are intentional or passive, we create and re-create our lives every day. Struggle can be our greatest call to courage and the clearest path to your best life. Your breakthrough is waiting.

I have been doing Telehealth since 2020. I love being able to see clients where they feel most comfortable and to increase access to these services. I am able to provide therapy, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment via an online platform. This traditionally utilizes video and audio components, though some clients prefer to not utilize the video portion. The platform is HIPAA compliant. I have done both in-person and online therapy, not modalities have been shown to be equally effective. I will do anything possible to make the experience as comfortable and smooth as possible.

Adolescents and adults navigating their faith and sexuality (LGBTQ+ affirming), anxiety, depression, interpersonal challenges, grief, trauma, pregnancy/postpartum, family of origin concerns, identity development, and general life stressors and transitions would particular enjoy working with me. Multicultural couples and families navigating culture clashes, estrangement, faith transitions, and sexual and intergenerational trauma, especially for BIPOC populations, are treatment specialties. Psychedelic psychotherapy preparation and integration are also available with referrals to clinics and others who can provide medication administration. Psychological assessment to clarify diagnoses such as autism, bipolar disorder, ADHD, etc., Independent Medical Evaluations (IME), worker’s compensation, preemployment for first responders, and fitness-for-duty-evaluations are also offered. Approaching patients with cultural humility is a core value at Malak Psychology honoring who you are, your ancestors, and the indigenous land we occupy. Grounded in decolonizing mental health, liberation, and feminist psychologies, my practice employs multimodal approaches, including dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, somatic experiencing, emotionally focused couples therapy, Gottman, family systems, psychoanalysis, and more. Empowering you to forge your unique path, I serve as a guide with an emphasis on agency and self-determination. Collaborative wellness plans allow participants to decide the depth of exploration into subjects. Psychologist, Licensed Psychologist
Telehealth psychology support for life adjustments, trauma, relationships, and body issues. With technology, you can experience all the benefits of in-person therapy in the comfort and privacy of your own home and have continuity of care when you travel. It can be especially helpful to those who find it challenging to travel to an office for appointments due to location, work, children at home, lifestyle, or other practical or personal reasons. You may be located abroad or be a professional who travels, telehealth allows you to get the support and resources and meet you where your life is at. While there are multiple ways that counseling can take place online, I work primarily with face-to-face video conferencing via Zoom and, on occasion, telephone sessions. I always hold my sessions in a quiet and confidential space, giving you the same confidentiality & professionalism that you experience within an office setting. Most, if not all, of my clients, find virtual sessions to be highly effective and convenient. They allow for the comfort and safety of therapy in your own space, and no travel time is often less vulnerable than needing to go to an office. Research of multiple studies finds that online therapy is equally effective as in-person for most cases. That being said I always advocate for what works best for each individual and it is wonderful to have choices to find your best path whichever that may be. If you are not tech-savvy or anxious about using technology, I'll make it as seamless as possible. I have chosen a platform that is easy to use, and I am happy to assist you with any questions or concerns. A common concern I hear from clients regarding online therapy is finding a quiet and/or confidential space when you’re homebound with children, and/or family members or roommates. Please plan this out in advance so you have quiet and privacy during your session. Since it is so convenient many times people forget to allow themselves a few minutes to "switch hats" and allow themselves a few breaths and get settled into being present and in the head/body space for your session. Headphones or AirPods can often make audio clearer or provide more privacy, but are not necessary. Given that video sessions can be conducted on your smartphone, clients have found it helpful to go to a park, connect from wherever you may be, and/or walk around your neighborhood. Get creative and support yourself. Find a private space that allows you to receive support no matter where you are. You are welcome to have pets join your space if you find that comforting and supporting, and you may see my fellow feline/canine therapists join in one of our sessions on my end.

Los Angeles, California therapist: Sara Fraser, psychologist
Family Systems

Sara Fraser

Psychologist, PhD
Like many of you, the pandemic profoundly impacted the way I live and work. I moved my practice completely online in the face of COVID restrictions and have not returned to in person work. I was impressed with the way that online therapy offered clients many more options for their work with me and I found clients able to keep up with their sessions consistently and reliably with more connection options open to them. Via safe and secure telehealth sessions, I offer parent consultation for kiddos under 10, online therapy with older kids, teens and families and individual therapy for adults, specializing in trauma and trauma focused therapies.

Research demonstrates that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person. I have had a great deal of success with seeing clients virtually and it adds a level of convenience to the process as well. I am always happy to meet with someone virtually whether it is exclusively virtual or a mixture of virtual and in-person. I am typically able to change from one format to the other if someone decides the day of that they want to switch from in-person to virtual or vice versa.
