Online therapy is useful for those who live out of the area or cannot make it to my office due to restrictive limitations of various kinds. To effectively use online therapy, you will need reasonably fast and reliable internet, good lighting, a private space where you will not be interrupted, and a computer that has an internal or external video camera and microphone. I only use software platforms that I believe are secure and HIPAA complaint, which eliminates FaceTime, messenger, Whatsapp and the like.
Though I much prefer in person sessions, with the above criterion met, I believe the online experience can be just as productive and a truly acceptable option if needed.
