Dr. Thomas Ballas
Psychologist, PhD; PSYPACT
I am a clinical psychologist with specialized expertise in treating anxiety disorders. My professional background spans hospital settings, private practice, and service as a medical officer in the U.S. Army, where I gained extensive experience addressing a wide range of mental health challenges. I have refined my skills in evidence-based treatments for anxiety, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), through advanced training in leading military treatment facilities and reknowned private practices.
These experiences have provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of anxiety and a strong commitment to delivering personalized, effective care. My goal is to help you break free from the grip of anxiety, improve your emotional well-being, and create a more balanced and fulfilling life. Together, we’ll develop a therapeutic approach tailored to your unique needs, ensuring you feel supported and empowered every step of the way.

We all experience worries and anxiety at some point in our lives. Sometimes our ways of coping with these feelings don't seem like enough. Whether you are dealing with nagging worries, or something more significant such as specific fears (e.g., driving, flying), obsessive-compulsive tendencies (e.g., hording, having trouble with germs, varying your routine), or are having panic attack symptoms, we can work towards reducing the impact these worries are having on your life.

Anxiety can make life extremely limited in what you can or want to do. It is our human nature to want to avoid; however, this most often takes us further away from the life you desire. I use a CBT approach of exploring your fears and responses while gaining confidence through practicing actions. My main focus areas are health anxiety, OCD, agoraphobia, and panic.

MindOverHealing Therapies
Hypnotherapist, CHt
Anxiety and fears are areas where hypnotherapy can have a profound impact. Through the power of suggestion and the exploration of the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy helps individuals confront and release the deep-rooted causes of their anxiety and fears. This therapeutic process begins with a state of deep relaxation, allowing clients to access their subconscious mind where negative thoughts and behaviors often originate.

I often refer to these feelings as the "Itchy Bitchies." Anxiety is a natural emotion that we need to learn to interpret, as it often has important messages for us. Learning how to embrace those anxious thoughts and fears can help to override the automatic reactions and tune in to our true feelings. This process takes practice, and I am here to help!

Jayson L. Mystkowski
Psychologist, Ph.D., ABPP
While Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) is highly effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders (e.g., Panic Disorder, Social Phobia, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), clinicians do see some “return of fear,” or partial relapse, in some patients due to a variety of factors. Over the past two decades, treatment researchers, with whom Dr. Jayson Mystkowski had the pleasure of working with at UCLA for over 10 years, have studied “return of fear” and discovered some key variables that may optimize the effects of learning during CBT for anxiety disorders (Craske et al., 2008).
First, evidence suggests that focusing on tolerating fear versus eliminating fear yields better clinical outcomes in the long term. Namely, teaching clients that fear and anxiety are normal feelings, rather than attempting to “down-regulate” such feelings all the time, is more realistic and seems to engender “hardier” clients. Second, helping clients to generate an expectancy that “scary things will not happen,” is very powerful. To do this, it is important for clinicians to create more complex exposure exercises (i.e., tasks in which a client confronts a stimulus of which they are afraid), using multiple feared stimuli instead of one at a time. Then, the lack of a feared outcome becomes particularly surprising and memorable for a client and fear reduction is more potent. Third, increasing the accessibility and retrievability of non-fear memories learned during treatment are powerful factors in mitigating against a return of fear. Craske and colleagues demonstrated that exposure to variations of a feared stimulus, using a random schedule across multiple contexts or situations, is more effective than exposure to the same stimulus, on a predictable schedule, in an unchanging environment. The former paradigm, it is argued, creates stronger non-fear memories that are easier for a client to access when subsequently confronting feared objects or situations outside of the therapy context, than the later scenario.
In sum, clinicians have long been aware that some fear or anxiety returns following very successful CBT treatment. As mentioned above, there are some clear, empirically supported ways to modify the therapy we provide to further help clients generalize the gains made in therapy sessions to the real world.

Jason Herr
Psychologist, Psy.D.
I work with individuals experiencing persistent worry, overthinking, and physical symptoms of anxiety that interfere with daily life. Drawing on extensive clinical experience treating anxiety and related concerns across community mental health and private practice settings, I incorporate biological and neurological education to help clients understand how anxiety affects the brain, body, and nervous system.
Anxiety is a naturally occurring process that can build slowly or appear suddenly. While many people associate anxiety only with panic attacks, it more often shows up as overthinking, constant analyzing, chronic worry, and a low-grade sense of never feeling fully safe. This ongoing activation can cause the limbic system to become overactive and gradually diminish the body’s ability to relax. Anxiety often gives the false impression of control over situations that are ultimately outside of our control.
In our work together, I teach practical skills to regulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, reduce reactivity, and restore a sense of internal stability. Together, we develop tools to manage uncertainty, increase tolerance for lack of control, and respond to stress with greater clarity, confidence, and emotional balance.
