  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Imago Relationship Therapy Helps couples understand how childhood experiences influence adult relationships. It teaches communication techniques to deepen connection.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Helps parents strengthen their bond with their child while learning effective strategies to manage challenging behaviors. Through live coaching, parents practice positive communication, set clear boundaries, and build a more supportive, nurturing home environment.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: At Love With Boundaries Addiction Family Counselling, we work with the family members first, teaching them how to learn to set loving, respectful boundaries with the addicts they love so much. They need to learn how to not let the addicts have so much power in these family dynamics, and how to stop whatever codependent behaviours they are expressing, because that is not helpful for the addict or for the family.

Therapy Sessions Candace Plattor Practice Description
When the family members learn how to set healthy, respectful boundaries with the addicts they love, the whole family dynamic changes. The underlying message they are then able to give the addict is "We love you so much that we are no longer willing to support you in your addiction. But when you decide to be in recovery and learn how to live without your addictive behaviors, we will then support you in whatever ways we can." We believe that being entrenched in addiction is something that the person can change, with the respectful help that the family learns how to give them. At Love With Boundaries Addiction Family Counselling, we work with the family members first, and then with the addicts once they are ready to make that choice.
