Shannon Gorres
Life Coach, MDiv, MA
I believe all paths toward Oneness carry the message and call of finding inner peace, outer harmony, and unfathomable love. As a teen, I was drawn to the passionate contemplation of the mystics, and to the presence of Godde in nature. My Catholic roots led me into progressive Protestantism, Buddhism and Universal Sufism. After earning a Master of Divinity (2014) in Berkely, CA, I worked as an interfaith chaplain for 9 years with dying adults and children. Now in private practice, I integrate scientific research on trauma, ancient and emerging spirituality, and holistic wellness. I'm currently an ordained cherag with the Sufi Ruhaniat International (since 2018). I am also a certified Sivananda yoga and Vedanta teacher (2009) and an ANFT forest therapy guide (2021). A mother, poet, and queer, I am deeply embracing a hurting world and mending the ruptures that deter us from knowing this divine love. If you are on a path of self-realization and feel blocked, I'd love to help.

I agree with Alcoholics Anonymous when it asserts that alcoholism -- and all addictions -- are spiritual disorders. The same could be said of many of the other conditions that patients bring to their therapists. Life is very big and complicated and challenging, and our little egos are scarcely equipped to negotiate all of that unaided. Larger sources of support and wisdom are essential, if one is at all oriented to that dimension. My own spiritual life is central to me personally, and is vital to my understanding my patients -- although I never suggest spiritual beliefs to patients. I believe that this is a crucially personal aspect of life, and the implicit power given to the therapist should never be used to sway vulnerable clients in any particular direction. But if a patient is at all spiritually inclined, and searching for larger meaning in life, I always stand ready to support that search wholeheartedly.
