Having taught in the Addictions Counselling program at Medicine Hat College for 14 years, I understand addiction as a neurophysiological brain disorder that the person did not choose in their life. My approach is to address the addiction from a bio-psycho-social-spiritual perspective giving compassion and helping the client understand how addiction functions in their life and how they can move to recovery and continue a new life in recovery.
