Life can be really challenging at times and while we love our family and friends, they tend to give advice rather than practical tools for navigating those challenges. Sometimes they even get upset when we don't do what they tell us to! Therapy is different -- you get an unbiased listener who will teach those practical skills and offer realistic suggestions, rather than advice. Best of all, you will feel supported regardless of your decision. Whether you just want someone to bounce ideas off of, to finally start working on those unprocessed traumatic memories that we can't just "get over", or anything in between, I offer a safe place to work through your unique situation on your timeline. You will never feel pressured to talk about something that you aren't ready to, but you will feel supported enough to do so. I'm looking forward to meeting with you!

Treatment Approach

  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: As each person is unique, so should our approach to your unique situation. There are a multitude of approaches, techniques, and skills to tackle any issue, so where to start? Through psychoeducation, recommendations, and even demonstrations, we decide together what the best pathway is for you, and then venture along that pathway in your own timeframe. We'll experiment with different skills until we land on the exact techniques that work best for you. I will never force you to move faster than you are willing or able to, and will we never talk about things that you aren't ready to. You're the boss in our sessions because you know you the best, and I firmly believe that you have everything within you already to facilitate change, growth, and healing. Therapy Sessions Tracey MacKenzie Practice Description
If you have never been to counselling, your first questions is probably, "What happens in therapy?" Great question! First, it is crucial to find a counsellor that you really connect with -- that you feel heard and seen by them, there's no judgement, and you actually LIKE your therapist as a person, not just as a therapist. When you trust your counsellor with your story, great things can happen! Second, people usually bury huge emotions and memories, hoping they'll magically go away on their own ... eventually. Sorry, but if that were going to happen, it would have already happened. This is where therapy can be so helpful -- you have a safe, private place to begin to talk about things you don't often talk about and then things you don't often think about because they're so upsetting. In that process, we can even uncover issues that you didn't realize were issues. This can be distressing but with a comforting, supportive ally with you, we can keep distress to a minimum and process those memories and feelings, bit by bit. We will change how you think and feel about yourself, others in your life (past and present), and things that happened to you. Freedom from the past will be new and exciting and you can start to live the life that you should have always had.
