Finding peace with your body and food is a true struggle in the times and culture we inhabit. Whether you are struggling with full-on eating disorders such as anorexia, binge eating disorder (BED), or bulimia, or have a hard time finding a connection to your body and eating, there are tools and support for you. We have multiple resources including cognitive, trauma-based, somatic, and experiential therapies to begin the path of creating and walking in a loving healthy relationship with food and with your body. There are no one-size-fits-all approaches as eating disorders are most often the symptom rather than the root. Changing behaviors allow us to begin to see the power of 'embodiment' and how truly free and powerful you are to become......yourself.

Desert to Peaks Psychology

Psychologist, Ph.D., LP
Our team understands that disordered eating behaviors often serve a purpose, whether related to control, coping, identity, or self-worth, and we'll work with you to gently uncover and address the underlying needs beneath these behaviors. Our therapists prioritize creating a space that is nonjudgmental and steady, where you can speak openly about thoughts, urges, and patterns that may feel confusing or hard to share. Our team is trained in CBT, DBT, and Family Systems approaches to treating eating disorders. During sessions we may gently challenge rigid food rules, identify triggers for disordered thoughts and behaviors, reduce shame, build more flexible thinking patterns about bodies and food, and strengthen emotion regulation and self-compassion. Our team is well versed in collaborating with other providers to support medical and nutritional stability.

Individuals experiencing Eating Disorders have an obsessive focus on food and are critical of their bodies to an extent that affects their daily lives. Age, gender, genetics, stress, and even certain vocations can lend to an eating disorder. For example, a runner or gymnast may be more disposed to an eating disorder – teenagers and young adults struggling with social pressures or individuals experiencing divorce or career changes are also prone to developing problematic eating habits. These individuals are generally attempting to cope with their overwhelming feelings and painful emotions by controlling what they ingest. There are several types of eating disorders with varied actions and effects. Anorexia Nervosa is a severe restriction of food and overexercising causing the individual to become very thin and malnourished. Bulimia Nervosa is a cycle of binging on large amounts of food then purging the calories by vomiting, laxatives, and excessive exercise. Binge Eating Disorder (BED) involves binge eating without purging and they can’t seem to stop eating even when overly full, then they feel guilty and embarrassed by the situation. Other eating disorders include Pica, Rumination Disorder, Avoidant/Restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), Night Eating Syndrome (NES), and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED). An individual with an eating disorder can recover and learn to have a healthy relationship with food again. It is helpful to recognize the signs and get treatment as early as possible. Medical doctors should also be consulted in addition to a therapist to ensure nutritional needs are being met for optimal health and general wellbeing. Family support is also helpful, especially when an adolescent or young adult is being treated.

Kreins Psychological Services

Psychologist, PhD, PsyD
As a psychologist specializing in eating disorders, my treatment approach is comprehensive and compassionate, focusing on addressing the complex psychological, emotional, and behavioral aspects of these disorders. I utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and family-based treatment (FBT) to help individuals develop a healthier relationship with food, body image, and self-esteem. Through individual and group therapy sessions, I assist clients in identifying and challenging disordered thoughts and behaviors, while also addressing underlying emotional issues and past traumas that may contribute to the development of an eating disorder. Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians and dietitians, I aim to provide comprehensive care and support tailored to each individual's needs. My goal is to empower clients to overcome their eating disorders, restore their physical and emotional well-being, and cultivate a fulfilling life beyond the confines of their illness.
