Nina Hopmeier
Licensed Professional Counsellor, Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
Having inadequate sleep largely impacts quality of life due to an inability to function well in waking state. People often lack physical and emotional energy to engage in daily tasks such as drive, go to work, house chores, and exercise. Sleep problems are often associated with underlying causes. The therapy process involves exploring the history of your sleep issues. We will explore when it began, what was going on for you at the time, and which factors are currently maintaining the sleeping problems. The model that I predominantly use for sleep issues is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with an emphasis on behaviour modification. Our work together will involve exploring the type of thoughts that interfere with having adequate sleeps. Once people recognize the relationship between their thought patterns and sleep issues, they feel hopeful in their ability to challenge thinking styles that are disruptive. We also focus on what behavioural changes we can incorporate into the treatment plan to maximize good quality, restful sleep. If you are someone struggling with sleep issues I would be happy to work with you and devise a treatment plan that fits to your unique needs.
