Veronique Rioux

Licensed Professional Counsellor, Registered Transpersonal Counsellor (RTC number 3047)
I specialize in working with individuals struggling with eating disorders, offering compassionate support to help you heal your relationship with food, body, and self. Whether you’re dealing with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, or other disordered eating patterns, these issues often stem from deep-rooted emotional pain, body image struggles, and a desire for control. My approach focuses on addressing both the psychological and physical aspects of eating disorders, helping you regain a healthy, balanced relationship with food and self-care. Using a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy, I guide clients in uncovering the emotional triggers behind disordered eating, challenging harmful thoughts, and developing healthy coping strategies. Together, we work on building self-acceptance, nurturing your body, and fostering emotional resilience. My goal is to support you in your recovery journey, empowering you to break free from destructive patterns and embrace a more fulfilling, nourishing life.

I believe that embodiment allows for true health. So many of us spend time disconnected from, hating on, and uncomfortable in our bodies. Focusing on healing the wounds that separated you from your body can help build a stronger sense of self esteem and bring back safety to the body.

Licensed Professional Counsellor, Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
Admitting that an eating disorder has developed is a very brave and courageous step. By engaging in this first step you are already beginning your recovery process. Many individuals are in denial about their eating disorder and only acknowledge their problematic behaviours once their health is severely impacted. Since the behaviours of an eating disorder are unique across individuals, the treatment plan too, is unique. In therapy, we largely explore the meaning that you give to the eating disorder, how you developed your relationship with food, and the purpose that the eating disorder served in your life. Once you gain a deeper understanding of the cause of the eating disorder, my hope is that you view yourself through a nonjudgmental lens, which is a crucial step in the healing process. In order to help you overcome the eating disorder, I also use a variety of therapy models, such as narrative therapy in order to separate the disorder from the person. Once you perceive the issue as separate from the self, you are more likely to activate your self-healing capacities, which is important for experiencing change and growth. I also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for challenging some of the thoughts that you may have about food. Once you gain insight into your personalized history of the eating disorder, as well as the resources that you have for overcoming dysfunctional eating patterns, you move further into your journey to recovery.

North York, Ontario therapist: EMDR and Trauma Therapy Centre, registered social worker
Eating Disorders

EMDR and Trauma Therapy Centre

Registered Social Worker, Registered Social Worker, MSW, RSW
Eating disorders unveils a poignant narrative of disordered eating as a coping mechanism rooted in early relational patterns and past traumas. Shaped by experiences of attachment insecurity and emotional neglect, individuals may turn to food or restrictive behaviours to numb the pain or regain a sense of control. Like a silent scream, the cycle of disordered eating echoes the unmet emotional needs and the scars of past hurts, manifesting as a distorted relationship with food and body image. Therapy offers a sanctuary for exploration, providing a safe space to unpack the complexities of attachment dynamics and process the underlying trauma. By nurturing compassionate connections and addressing the root causes of distress, individuals can begin to untangle the knots of their eating disorder, reclaiming agency over their bodies and rediscovering a sense of self-worth and nourishment beyond the plate.
