Trauma and PTSD

Kat Herbinson

Therapist, MA, RCC
Trauma is an area of particular interest for me and I have experience working with many different methods to support people in clearing their trauma. Parts work, or Internal Family systems, is one of my favourite approaches because it's an efficient and effective way to get past our internal defense mechanisms and create sustainable change. I have undergone training and co-facilitated legal (Canada-Health approved) psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy session for patients in palliative care and others with PTSD. I provide integration sessions for people who want to debrief from their journeys to support them in bringing forward their learnings into their day-to-day life. I have also helped to ghost-write a book about a trauma processing method which I use with clients who are having a difficult time getting "unstuck" after experiencing a traumatic event or series of events.

Counsellor/Therapist, MA, RCC
Trauma is not what happened to us but how our nervous system responded to it. With my clients I work through trauma from a holistic perspective that includes somatic, emotional and spiritual work. Processing our trauma in a safe, non judgemental space allows us to live more integrated and fulfilled lives.

Just because something very difficult and negatively impact-full happened to you doesn't necessarily mean you experienced trauma. Trauma is the bodies way of telling us we have not resolved a past event or period of extreme stress over time. There are steps you can take to change how past events continue to impact you today. Freedom from the past is possible.
