Marriage and Family Therapist, MA, LMFT
I believe that no matter where you’ve been, what you’ve been through, or where you are currently, there is hope. I know that life can throw some crazy curve balls and I understand how painful and earth-shattering crisis can be. You may feel too weary to deal with what is happening (or you may be tired of always having to be so strong), but sometimes transformation can happen just by holding on. I would like to be the person who supports you in hanging on, even if the rope seems to be slipping through your fingers. Because I believe the future can look different than the present and the past. Things can change. So if you feel like giving up, please give me a call instead. Like a tree, I believe that in order to change the fruit (what is currently going on in our life), we need to look at the root. You can pick every orange off an orange tree hoping it will grow apples, but unless you change the root, it will just keep growing oranges. I believe that if we can get to the “heart” (or root) of what is happening, you will see different fruit begin to develop. Because I believe that many of life’s struggles stem from wounds of the heart. I want to help wounded hearts heal. I enjoy working with people of all cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. For those who are interested in Christian Counseling, I am also trained in integrating God into that healing process.

Sherman Oaks, California therapist: Stella Zweben Samuel, LCSW, licensed clinical social worker

Stella Zweben Samuel, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I have worked as a psychotherapist for more than 25 years. During those years, I have worked with adolescents and young adults in a variety of settings – hospitals, day treatment facilities, universities, schools, and private practice. My first job out of social work school was at Bellevue Medical Center in New York City with adolescents. The adolescents with whom I worked at Bellevue gave me an education in humor, creativity, and strength. I obtained counseling positions at both UCLA and USC working with students on their academic challenges and the stress that impacts their success. It is fair to say that I have learned how to listen to adolescents, understand how to connect with them, and help them to gain confidence and the strategies to improve themselves and their situation. But I have also grasped the stress of parents have when raising adolescents and provided support, understanding, and tools to manage this important role. I’ve been training my whole life for this. I grew up with a mother who taught children with learning disabilities and a father who always gave back to the community recognizing those less fortunate. I learned early through volunteering at my mother’s school, volunteering at mental health helplines, supporting friends throughout high school, becoming a mom, and throughout my work in social work that providing another person with a patient and listening ear could provide support and understanding. It could be said that all that I have experienced, shared, and studied so far has been training me for the role I cherish that of psychotherapist.

We are beings in motion, faced with the opportunity to learn and grow by becoming aware of the tension between what is conscious and unconscious on this journey called life. Psychotherapy and psychoeducation are tools that we can use together on this journey. I focus on helping you to grow, find yourself, and reduce suffering on your journey. People are not a disorder, as that is only looking at the negative, and we already do far too much of that. As Carl Jung said, "We are not what happened to us, we are what we wish to become".

Dr. Ingrid Solano

Psychologist, PhD
I see myself as an intuitive, creative, informed, and highly trained Clinical Psychologist that provides a safe, nonjudgmental, and transformative environment. Therapy with me fosters a deep sense of engagement and connection, a sense of feeling heard and understood, and clarity where there was previously ambiguity. I have a passion for the importance of relationships, authentic living, self-acceptance, and the complex experiences of those who hold multiple identities. I specialize in hard to talk about topics that are often stigmatized or concealed.  I treat clients who are dealing with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, co-dependency, interpersonal problems (i.e., couples therapy, sex therapy), stigma/discrimination, childhood/adult sexual trauma, shame and guilt (among others). I specialize in non-traditional/diverse  relationships and sexuality, complex PTSD, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, and the unique stressors of being a creative.  I work well with curious individuals who are motivated to grow, share, be vulnerable, and play in therapy and in their lives. Creativity and curiosity in psychotherapy allows both of us to explore, question, imagine, and reflect on thoughts and experiences with depth and authenticity. Together we explore more flexible ways of thinking and relating to others. I offer evidence-based therapies from a curious, nonjudgmental philosophy. No matter where you have been, evidence-based therapies focus on changing the now. I strive to help my clients experience the world mindfully, and in accordance with their personal values. Through our work in cultivating an affirming, authentic, and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship, I provide support while we collaboratively deconstruct what is causing distress in your life and preventing you from being your most effective and authentic self. Individual therapy facilitates insight and growth, becoming more effective at actualizing your values, and building more authentic relationships with yourself and with others. While there are many forms of therapy you can pursue, my expertise is in time-limited, evidence-based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT), the Unified Protocol for emotional disorders, and third wave CBT such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness based interventions. (I do have experience in, and practice, an eclectic arrangement of other modalities as well-- when applicable or specifically requested.) We explore thoughts, beliefs, and understanding, while also prioritizing behavioral processes that focus on your contexts and the functions of how you relate to your internal experiences. CBT is designed to help individuals notice and shift their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to get relief from painful emotions such as anxiety and sadness.

Beverly Hills, California therapist: Samer Fawaz, marriage and family therapist

Samer Fawaz

Marriage and Family Therapist, M.A., AMFT
Therapy changed my life. In fact, it led me to become a therapist. Professionally, I had reached a level of success that kept me financially comfortable, but I was depressed and anxious because I lacked purpose. I was lost in addictions and reckless behaviors which further galvanized my sadness and kept me feeling lost in how to make meaningful change. My commitment to therapy helped me become the man I am today. Therapy is a safe place for you to be open with your thoughts and feelings, free of judgment. Shame is a common issue we all face. Sharing your shame helps to dispel it and leads you to substantial emotional growth. I find the most valuable impact therapy can have on you is a deeper understanding of yourself and who you want to show up as in the world. Through consistent, gentle, and thoughtful investigation of oneself, there can be considerable growth. The deeper we are able to go together, the more attuned you will become with yourself and others. I am a highly engaged therapist who will challenge you in session to become more attuned to yourself. I deeply believe in empowerment and helping clients cultivate a solid sense of self and self-worth. My practice encompasses a wide range of people. My main areas of focus include the queer community, working professionals, performers, artists, and couples of all types. I have a particular passion for working with small business owners, entrepreneurs, and career-focused individuals who are looking to elevate their skills and evolve as strong compassionate leaders. For individuals looking for career counseling, I offer a blend of psychotherapy and coaching that helps you refine your business and leadership skills.

Beverly Hills, California therapist: Clare Waismann, drug and alcohol counselor
Person-Centered

Clare Waismann

Drug and Alcohol Counselor, Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS), Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor (SUDCC)
I have always been extremely interested in the science surrounding mental health. Although in my early days, I did not quite understand the depth and heartbreaks of addiction, after almost a quarter of a century of study, training, and hands-on experience, I am humbled by the realization of the multiple dimensions of this condition. Although, there is not one single or simple solution, there are a tremendous amount of useful resources and excellent results. I also learned that knowledge, professionalism, and compassion are necessary tools health care workers must possess. There is no place for stigma, judgment, or arrogance. I strive to provide a safe space for those seeking help, where concerns are heard and evaluated, and where individual needs are carefully and respectfully examined. A place where treatment options are decided purely on patients' needs and not on preset protocols that benefit the program more than the patient. I want the patient to have a meaningful experience. One that will help them choose a healthier path. I act with others in a way that aligns with my values. My desire to be in healthcare was never misguided, but maybe a little naïve. I have since broadened my understanding of people's needs, strengths, and difficulties. My purpose hasn't changed and I continue to strive to help people live healthier and happier lives.
