Please also see the description under 'anxiety or fears'. Social anxiety can hamper the trajectory of life- not meeting people you could have met, not having friends that could have been there for you, and reinforcing anxiety in all its forms while increasing isolation. It is tied to self-judgment, fear of embarrassment, endless 'playbacks' of conversations in the mind, and memories of other situations. But like anxiety in general, it is something that can be overcome. Sometimes we find that what we think of as scary to the point of being unapproachable is much more tame and harmless than we expected, once we get a closer look at the thing we fear.

While most of us place some value on our personal and professional reputations, what happens when we're in constant fear of these reputations being tarnished or attacked? For those with social anxiety disorders, the result is the avoidance of people, experiences and opportunities that could result in life’s enjoyment. If you have a social anxiety disorder, our shared goal will be to gradually confront these avoided situations. After experiencing each situation, your original thoughts will be reframed to match this experience rather than the feared worst-case scenario. You’ll also apply coping strategies that help you feel at ease while confronting situations. You may even learn to laugh at yourself, which is almost always a win.
