Sandra Lashley
Psychologist, Psy.D.
BPD is a complex but treatable personality style that involves high levels of emotional reactivity, difficulty at times managing those feelings, a pervasive sense of often feeling abandoned and misunderstood as well as a number of other features that can differ from person to person, but typically leave the individual sometimes feeling alone, angry, desperate or confused. I am well trained in both the short term and the long term psychodynamic and psychoanalytic treatment of BPD. It is is associated with a trauma history and both BPD and trauma are my areas of expertise.

Dr. Brian Sharpless
Psychologist, Ph.D., Clinical Psychology; M.A., Philosophy
Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a very treatable condition. However, it can be misdiagnosed for other disorders, and this can delay treatment gains. Following a thorough evaluation to establish BPD, I use one of three forms of contemporary psychodynamic therapy (i.e., Transference-Focused psychotherapy, Mentalization-Based Treatment, or Supportive Therapy) alone or in combination. All of these therapies have been tested in clinical trials. I have published professional works (e.g., articles; a book) on psychodynamic therapy. Please note that I do not do couple's therapy and that I will not schedule appointments intended for other people (e.g., spouses, family members). All potential patients must contact me directly.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is often considered the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, offering a comprehensive approach that addresses emotion dysregulation, interpersonal difficulties, and self-destructive behaviors. Psychodynamic therapy can delve into underlying conflicts and attachment issues contributing to the development of borderline personality traits, promoting insight and self-awareness. Additionally, relational therapy focuses on repairing and improving interpersonal relationships, which is crucial for individuals with borderline personality disorder who often struggle with intense and unstable relationships.

John D. Gartner
Psychologist, Ph.D.
BPD is very treatable, but it's important to see a specialist.
I began my practice after completing a post-doctoral fellowship in Treatment of Borderline Disorder at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, using the methods pioneered Dr. Otto Kernberg. For the last 5 years, I've integrated some aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my practice, especially mindfulness meditation.
