Frederick, Maryland therapist: Sandra Lashley, psychologist
Codependency

Sandra Lashley

Psychologist, Psy.D.
I listen closely to the ways that clients think and experience codependency in their own lives, how it shows up for them and this helps inform my thoughts about treatment and what might help. It can be a style of regularly focusing outwardly on other people, so much so that people can feel they lose themselves. The pathways to codependency can vary and can include things like being close to someone with an addiction, close to someone with an untreated mental health problem or being close to someone with a chronic personality issue. It can be connected to parenting or marriage. It can be learned from going up in certain families and often felt and was experienced as adaptive and necessary, until it longer works. This is a common issue in ny practice and I do consider it a specialty area.

Fort Worth, Texas therapist: James Parker, psychologist
Codependency

James Parker

Psychologist, PhD
My approach to therapy is primarily guided by Coherence Therapy. Coherence Therapy is an approach to treatment that is different from many others in that - instead of focusing on what is "negative" or "wrong" and trying to change or alter it - the purpose is to genuinely understand a person's symptoms; to curiously explore why maintaining certain patterns of thinking and behavior is emotionally necessary, even when a person is feeling stuck because of those patterns. Understanding the symptom leads to identifying the underlying emotional reasons of why we do things and addresses the cause of feeling stuck, not just the symptom, which then leads to meaningful and lasting changes. That means we will use real experiences from your life - about codependency, or anything else - to help you make sense of and overcome the difficulties related to it.

Columbia, Maryland therapist: Pat Dudley, licensed professional counselor
Codependency

Pat Dudley

Licensed Professional Counselor, PhD, LCPC, NCC
Codependency is a behavioral condition in a relationship where one person enables another person's addiction, poor mental health, immaturity, irresponsibility, or under-achievement. Among the core characteristics of codependency is an excessive reliance on other people for approval and a sense of identity. In our work together, we will explore/examine the issues related to the behavior and improve the reasoning behind co-dependency.
