Loss or Grief

Seaford Counseling Services

Counselor/Therapist, M.Ed, LCMHC
The old thinking about grief was that there were five finite stages, and that by the end of the year you should be “done” grieving. The fact of the matter is that we are never, ever done grieving. Yes, you will come to a stage , where you are finally feeling happy again. But we will never stop loving the person for the dream that we’ve lost, and thus we will never stop grieving. Just when we least expect it, we will see something that reminds us an of our dearly devoted I'd.d suddenly we will crumple to a puddle of tears. But we will get to the point where memories are happy, and actually comforting. Eventually, after lots of talking, crying, laughing, reminiscing and remembering, we will manage to live and love again. Unfortunately, grief is one of those things that we can’t go above below or around, we just have to go through it. But we don’t have to go through it alone. Allow me to walk this road with you, and it will be at least half as hard. First, we just have to get started.

Loss or Grief

Lynette Cisneros

Counselor/Therapist, LCMHC, LMHC
Part of our human experience is encountering & coping with loss. This is unavoidable. Grief and loss encompass many areas including but not limited to the death of a loved one, a pet, the loss of a relationship, job or an unexpected change in health. It may also be related to a dream or narrative we had for self which may no longer be an option. Those of us who have experienced heartache know it is real and can be devastating. It is important to put words to our emotions and allow them to move opposed to remaining stagnant. Processing our emotions surrounding grief & loss may not entirely heal them but it allows for living with the loss to feel more manageable. We can learn to live with the wound.

Loss or Grief

Nour Counseling

Counselor/Therapist
Grief is often handled in ways that feel rushed, minimized, or quietly avoided. People expect you to “be strong,” “move forward,” or make your loss more comfortable for them. But grief doesn’t work like that. It can be disorienting, consuming, unpredictable. It can show up as anger, numbness, guilt, relief, or moments where it hits without warning. And it’s not just about losing a person—grief can come from losing a relationship, a future you were counting on, a version of yourself, or a sense of stability you thought you had. When the world keeps moving like nothing happened, it can make you feel even more disconnected. At Nour Counseling, we don’t try to soften grief into something more palatable. We take it seriously. We sit with you in it while also helping you understand how it’s impacting your body, your thoughts, and your day-to-day functioning. We support you in finding ways to stay connected—to yourself, to others, and to some sense of grounding—even when everything feels off. We also center the question of belonging, because grief often disrupts it—who feels safe, where you fit, and how you relate to the world now. And we name the cultural messages around grief that may be pressuring you to process it in a way that isn’t actually yours. This work is not about “closure” or “moving on.” It’s about learning how to carry what’s been lost without losing yourself in the process.
