There is unfortunately a great deal of misinformation about NPD in the media and online. It is also frequently misdiagnosed for other conditions. I have experience both assessing and treating NPD. In terms of assessment, I use reliable clinical instruments (i.e., those used in clinical trials) to establish/rule out this diagnosis. For therapy, I apply several forms of contemporary psychodynamic therapies shown to be helpful in treating personality disorders (i.e., Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, Supportive-Expressive Therapy, and Mentalization-Based Treatment).
