Self-esteem is the foundation of our identity; it determines how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. Discovering your self-culture is an essential step in developing a healthy sense of self-esteem. It’s about accepting who you are and what you stand for, which in turn helps you cultivate more meaningful relationships and pursue a fulfilling life. It's time to embrace your unique identity and nurture your self-esteem to a new height.

Low self-esteem refers to having a diminished sense of self-worth. When experiencing low self-esteem, individuals may feel shy or anxious in the presence of others, perceive themselves as incapable, or subject themselves to harsh self-criticism. Some individuals with low self-esteem are aware of their tendency to judge themselves severely, while others hold onto their negative beliefs so strongly that they perceive them as factual. I use CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to challenge these negative beliefs. I start by identifying your core beliefs in order to ultimately develop healthier, more flexible, rules and beliefs about living and yourself. My goal is to replace self criticism with self compassion so you can live in line with your new core beliefs.

Many of us are hard on ourselves to the point of suffering, and we did not get here by ourselves. I aim to help clients get underneath their experiences of themselves, increasing their awareness of what has contributed in shaping their personality, approach to life, and relationship to self and others. My hope is to support clients in re-connecting to their authentic selves, with compassion instead of berating, and kindness instead of criticism, and in doing so, improve both self-esteem and self-worth.

Self esteem refers to our sense of self; being aware of what our values are, and living accordingly. It includes acting with integrity and authenticity and taking responsibility for our lives despite what may have happened to us; if we have had difficult experiences it means being aware of the self-critical mind and replacing it with self compassion; ie being kind to yourself. You can refer to Kristen Neff’s work on self compassion or Chris Germer’s; there is also 5 minutes self compassion breaks on you tube you can refer to when things get hard; be kind, cut yourself some slack and take some chances in life; that’s important.

Recently, I was watching a video clip of Brene Brown, the renowned social worker and shame researcher. She talked about empathy as the antidote to shame. Whereas shame that is hidden is permitted to grow and thrive, shame that is shared with an understanding and empathic ear has the opportunity to transform. My hope is that if you're struggling with negative feelings about yourself, you'll be able to share your thoughts and feelings with me when you feel safe to do so.
