Do you often feel heavy, lost, or overwhelmed by the absence of someone or something important in your life? Grief can show up in many ways—sadness, anger, guilt, numbness, or even confusion. It’s common to feel pressure to “move on” or hide your pain. You may find yourself carrying feelings that feel too big or too complicated to process alone.
These reactions are not a sign of weakness—they are natural responses to loss. What matters is how you honour and work with them rather than push them away. Together, we can explore your grief, hold space for what you’re feeling, and support you in finding ways to carry loss while reconnecting with life—so you can feel a bit lighter, more grounded, and more at peace over time. You grieve for a reason. Let’s explore why, and what comes next.

A loss isn't easy; it can overwhelm and upend even the most stalwart lives. While we can try and plan for it, sudden or not, the pain and anguish felt by the finality of a heartfelt loss are resounding.
Our brains are socially driven, and the need for connection is biologically wired to ensure the survival of our species. Grief is a natural, visceral response experienced due to connective loss regardless of the circumstances - death, job, relationship, injury or illness.
I understand that the pain from the loss may never go away, but together we can work to develop a more compassionate relationship for managing grief. We will explore how to respond to your pain with kindness and move towards a rich and meaningful life despite the loss, reclaiming peace and fulfillment.

Mind By Design®
Registered Psychotherapist, Psychology and Coaching Clinics
Although grief is a necessary reaction to losses of every sort, complicated grief occurs when one cannot adapt to their losses. The same is true for bereavement, which is the period of grief and mourning after experiencing a loss. Symptoms of complicated grief or bereavement can include extended periods of acute grief, extensive preoccupation with the loss, feelings of worthlessness, extended feeling or numbness or denial, changes in personal relationships, and engaging in self-destructive activities.

When we grieve, many of our past losses bombard us, longing to be mourned and felt. Stored up tragedies that we have not yet grieved come to the surface. LifeCycle Counselling
Registered Psychotherapist, MACP, MPE, RP
Grief is the process of reacting to a loss. This loss could be physical (death of a loved one), social (such as a divorce), or occupational (such as work-related). An individual experiencing grief may have conflicted feelings and may experience fluctuations in symptoms throughout their process. Often times, individuals might feel as though they have accepted the loss and have gotten closure. However, later on they may begin to experience grief again and that is okay. Closure is not a one-time thing, it can happen over the course of weeks, months, or even years. Sometimes we are able to gain closure on certain aspects of the loss, and other parts may take a bit longer. Individuals may find that their emotional reaction changes and fluctuates, and can entail different emotions and behaviors. Feelings of sadness can also begin to intensify as the individual begins to yearn to be with the loved one again.
Psychotherapy can be effective in helping an individual overcome grief by allowing the individual to come to terms with the loss, to help work through pain and grief, and help to learn how to move forward and adapt to a life without the loved one. Psychotherapy can also help you to find ways to maintain a connection with the loss. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy approaches have been successful in helping to treat grief and loss. Additionally, Relaxation Techniques and Mindfulness-based interventions, may also be helpful.
Book an appointment today! Overcoming grief and loss can feel overwhelming. It can impact various aspects of your overall well-being. It is important to seek help from a mental health professional in order to overcome grief. Grief and loss is just one of the areas that LifeCycle Counselling specializes in.

Oakville is one of the most affluent municipalities in Canada — a well-established Toronto suburb with a high median household income, well-funded schools, and a therapy culture that reflects the stresses of high-achieving, upper-middle-class suburban family life. The city's concentration of executives, professionals, and their families creates demand for therapists working with relationship complexity, parenting under pressure, and the psychological costs of maintaining prosperity and family cohesion. Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital provides institutional mental health resources alongside a well-established private therapy community. Oakville's growing diversity — with expanding South Asian and East Asian communities in its newer residential subdivisions — is gradually broadening the range of cultural frameworks therapists need to engage with.
