Obsessive-compulsive disorder is another mental disorder that is an improperly used term in pop media as it is usual to have routines that make us better even though it would not distress us if we could not do them. OCD on the other hand is when these routines start to impact the sufferer’s life, they inhibit them from fully functioning daily. Thus, people with OCD can feel as though their impulses and behaviours are outside of their control and are somehow unnatural.
Some of our licensed therapists have extensive training and experience providing ERP psychotherapy treatment for OCD to children, adolescents, and adults.
You may feel powerless to stop obsessive thoughts and urges or repetitive behaviours. We can explore ways to help you change these thought patterns to reduce anxious feelings and compulsions. Let us work together to create strategies to help break the cycle of undesirable urges.
Psychotherapy is a treatment process which allows clients to have a one-on-one interaction with the therapist. It provides a confidential, safe and comfortable environment where individuals can explore their feelings and behaviors.
We offer specialized treatment for OCD.
I specialize in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) by providing personalized, evidence-based therapy to help you manage intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. My approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) techniques, offering a supportive and structured path to recovery. Together, we can work towards reducing the impact of OCD on your daily life and enhancing your overall well-being.
OCD can be very distressing and disrupting to your daily life. I have advanced training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and have worked with children, teenagers and adults who suffer from OCD. My goal as a therapist is to help identify OCD triggers and stressors, make sense of where your anxiety is stemming from and develop healthy coping tools to restore a fulfilling life. OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) is characterized by presence of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are the unwanted intrusive thoughts and images that can include unwarranted concerns about a loved one dying in their sleep, disturbing vivid images of stabbing a person standing nearby, or worrying about having grabbed a used needle and injecting oneself with drugs without even being aware of having done so. Obsessions are all about uncertainty. Compulsions represent attempts at dealing with that uncertainty. Some compulsive behaviours appear to make at least some sense (e.g., being vigilant about wellbeing of others), while others don’t make any sense at all (e.g., counting to 100 each time a thought of potential harm comes to person’s mind). Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) protocol for OCD starts with building an inventory of obsessions and compulsions that the affected person engages in. This is followed by cognitive interventions that seek to understand and challenge the beliefs that underpin these symptoms. Many persons with OCD recognize the irrational nature of their thoughts and behaviours. So we use exposure response prevention (ERP) techniques that teach at a very visceral level that despite undeniable initial discomfort, letting go of one’s rituals does not lead to danger. It might not be the most comfortable treatment but, given its proven effectiveness, it’s worth the effort.
