During our formative years, our perceptions of ourself form and are largely based on what society deems to be appropriate, comments that are made to us, and unrealistic beauty standards that are thrust on us at a young age. It can be difficult to establish a healthy body image when society's definition of beauty is singular and uniform, with not much room for diversity. I work with my clients on understanding where their perceptions of beauty stem from, and ultimately how it contributed to their own body image. Once established, I work to alter maladaptive thinking patterns that foster the negative and defeating self-talk that contributes to the "not good enough" mindset.
