My heart in working with survivors of sexual abuse is to help them reclaim their voice, choice, and empowerment as they pursue healing. Together we will approach your story from a trauma informed mindset that cares for the mind/body/spirit connection and seek to restore your connection to your body, healing from your abuse, and any other goals you may have.
Sexual abuse is much larger problem than most people realize. One in four women have a history of sexual abuse. One in 7 men. These are just the reported cases. We keep it a secret for years. It destroys our sense of self. We feel less than, dirty, not good enough, and terrified it will happen again. We cannot block out the memory. It is a depressing and overwhelming. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy, a 12 session approach to reducing symptoms of trauma. If clients are open to using art, we add it as a way to go deeper and better express what is difficult to express verbally.
Many of my recent clients have been victims of sexual abuse as children. This is a horrible and well-kept secret for most. I understand the feelings you are experiencing and I want you to know you did not deserve what happened to you. Together, we can walk you through this and past it. If your abuse was years ago, it is time to be free.
So many people who have experienced sexual abuse feel they need to hide their experiences because they have often been invalidated, shamed, or not believed. There is so much pain and difficult emotions that become overwhelming to handle on your own. With my many years of experience working with sexual abuse survivors, I understand the great courage and strength it takes to be vulnerable and seek out help. I can offer a safe and judgement free space for you to process your pain and help you find the light in your life you have searching for.
We have over 10 counselors at 3 locations with various specialities including sexual abuse. Several of our counselors work with either children or adults in regards to sexual abuse and related issues.
The impact of childhood sexual abuse can have a wide range of effects in adulthood. The effects of this trauma can vary depending on the complexity of factors such as the amount of trauma you experienced, how the people you trusted reacted to the abuse if you told them and other layers of trauma. As an adult you might be experiencing issues with trust, self-esteem, impulsivity, anger, dissociation, substance abuse or self injury. Counseling with an empathetic, open hearted counselor can help. I offer a non-judgemental, trauma sensitive therapeutic approach so you can begin to heal through your pain and live the life you deserve. Together we can work towards decrease self blame, increase your self trust and felt sense of safety in your body. Life is hard, and you don't have to go through this alone.
Counseling is a safe place where you can process and grow through what happened to you so that you can live a meaningful life. As a trauma therapist, I have extensive training in crisis and trauma counseling, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for those recovering from trauma and other distressing life experiences.
