Claire de la Varre
Therapist, PhD, HGDipP
Dissociative disorders can develop as a response to overwhelming and often traumatic experiences. They exist on a spectrum with differening symptoms, but common to all of them is not being present. We all zone out from time to time but dissociation can feel confusing or unsettling—it is the mind’s way of coping when other options are unavailable. Therapy provides a chance to understand these responses and the role they have played in protecting you. When you work with me, we will focus on helping you feel safe, building stability, and increasing self-awareness. We will also help you develop practical skills to increase presence and continuity in daily life.

Trauma based dissociative (parts) support has been our focus and specialization throughout (14+ years). Most brains dissociate to some degree, under deep strain and stress and even repeated strain, dissociation is a way that some brains adapt to the intensive or repeated stress/strain/torture. We draw from DBR (shock recovery work), CranioSacral brain support work, Parts (TIST, IFS, EFIT, IPNB, Bonnie Badenoch's work, ...and inner child work, somatic and expressive arts, neurodevelopmental support, as well as characterological structure work within an attachment theory, non pathologizing framework. We work with clients to identify parts, systems, adaptations, responses, alters ... and what activates them. We support with memory reconsolidation and integrative support. Via IFS, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, NVC and IPNB Integration Processes, we work through mapping the system and healing exiled parts. For integration we offer Eco-Relational support, Mindfulness, or whatever framework the client gravitates towards and feels safe with accessing. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Dissociation and depersonalisation are experienced much more commonly than people often imagine. Essentially, they serve the purpose of splitting off emotional experiences that feel overwhelming. Given that everyone's journey through life is different, I specialise in working together with you to understand specifically why you are having the types of experiences that you are having.

Dr Jody Eiser
Therapist, Doctorate in Psychology
Dissociation can be understood as an adaptive response to overwhelm, a way the mind and body learn to cope when experiences feel too much to process. My work focuses on understanding these patterns through a trauma-informed lens and a focus on trauma endurance, supporting a gradual reconnection with self, emotion, and experience in a way that feels safe and contained.
