Hypnotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, RTT-T, Rewind Therapy Practitioner, Integration Coaching
Hypnotherapy uses a focused, relaxed state of awareness to work directly with the subconscious mind, the part of us that runs most of our habits, emotional reactions and automatic patterns. You stay aware, in control and able to talk throughout. It is not stage hypnosis and it is not sleep. As a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Rapid Transformational Therapist trained personally by Marisa Peer, I use hypnosis as part of a structured therapeutic process rather than as a standalone relaxation technique. The aim is real, often lasting change at the level where patterns are actually held. Sessions run online via Zoom for 90 to 120 minutes. Most issues respond within one to three sessions.

Seattle, Washington therapist: Melanie Carey, counselor/therapist

Melanie Carey

Counselor/Therapist, LMHCA
Hypnotherapy in my practice is used as a gentle, focused way to support deeper access to patterns that often live beneath everyday awareness. It is not about being “out of control” or manipulated, but instead about entering a relaxed, highly attentive state where the mind and body can work together more fluidly. In this state, clients often find it easier to connect with internal images, sensations, emotions, and memories that are related to anxiety, trauma responses, habits, or long-standing emotional patterns. This can create openings for insight, release, and new ways of experiencing familiar triggers. My approach to hypnotherapy is trauma-informed, collaborative, and always paced by your nervous system. You remain aware and in control throughout the process, and sessions are guided with a focus on safety, choice, and consent. Hypnotherapy is never used to override your experience, but to gently support what is already ready to shift or be understood more deeply. Within a psychodynamic and Focusing-Oriented framework, hypnotherapy can help amplify the “felt sense” — the subtle body-based knowing that often carries important emotional information. This can support work around anxiety, fears, self-worth, relational patterns, and internalized beliefs. Clients often describe hypnotherapy sessions as deeply restful, clarifying, or surprisingly emotional in a way that feels meaningful and contained. It can also support nervous system regulation, helping the body access states of calm that may feel difficult to reach in everyday life. Hypnotherapy is used selectively and thoughtfully as part of an integrative approach, and may be combined with talk therapy, mindfulness, and Focusing-Oriented work depending on your needs and goals. This work is especially supportive for clients who feel “stuck in their head,” or who notice that insight alone has not created lasting change, and who are curious about engaging the deeper layers of mind-body experience in a safe and grounded way.

Hypnotherapists like to call themselves "change workers", for that is what we do. Who doesn't have something in their lives that they would like to change? Unwanted habits, fears and phobias, lack of confidence, negative self image, anxiety, the list goes on and on. For all these things and more, hypnosis is the most powerful go to therapy. Modern hypnotherapists are guided by the latest research in Neuroscience as the list of what problems we can resolve expands on a regular basis. As the new field of PsychoNeuroImmunology reveals the emotional roots of many chronic conditions and illnesses, we can now work with intractable medical issues such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohns Disease, and Ulcerative Collitis. Hypnosis is now considered the most effective treatment for IBS and has no side effects and is long lasting. Hypnosis can be used to boost confidence, creativity, and focus to help achieve one's career goals. It can also be used to work through intimacy issues and help have a more satisfying love life. The longer I work in the field, the more issues I feel confident I can help resolve.

Chicago, Illinois therapist: Dr. Monika Sharma, psychologist

Dr. Monika Sharma

Psychologist, PsyD
I use hypnosis as part of the larger psychotherapy process or as a brief, stand-alone intervention where appropriate. Our logical thinking is only part of what influences how we move through our lives. But we know logic alone isn't enough to begin doing all the things we "know" we should be doing such as: saving money, prioritizing sleep, speaking truthfully, leaving that relationship, trusting we're safe on elevators, etc. It's not a lack of knowledge or how-to that keeps us stuck. It's the deeper emotional layer, the part that doesn't necessarily listen to logic, that can keep change elusive. Hypnosis aims to soften the stubbornness of that deeper layer by opening it up to safety, possibility, and alignment with who you want to become. It recognizes that the mind and body are indistinguishable from each other, and leverages the unconscious mind to create real, tangible change in the conscious mind and behavioral choices. Through hypnosis, I will help you overcome barriers that keep you stuck and alleviate anxieties so that you may move about more freely and powerfully in your life. Hypnotherapy, Neurolinguistic Programming (or NLP), & Thought Pattern Management are rooted in the idea that a person's thoughts, feelings, & behaviors arise from their Unconscious Mind. When we are able to communicate directly with the Unconscious Mind, & to gain it's trust and cooperation, it is capable of quickly healing & creating changes for that person.
