Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Brainspotting A therapy that uses eye positions to access and process unresolved trauma. It helps release emotional and physical pain held in the body.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Developmental Therapy Looks at how childhood and developmental experiences affect current challenges. It aims to repair unmet needs and foster healthy growth.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, collaborative, and centered on creating a space where you feel safe enough to slow down and be fully yourself. I believe healing happens when you are not rushed, judged, or pushed beyond what feels manageable. Instead, we work together at a pace that supports both emotional safety and meaningful progress. I integrate Brainspotting, somatic-based techniques, and mindfulness to support deeper emotional processing and nervous system regulation. This means we are not only talking about your experiences, but also paying attention to how they are held in the body. By working with both the mind and body, therapy can move beyond surface-level insight and support lasting change. I also draw from trauma-informed care and parts-based perspectives to help you build awareness, understand your internal experiences, and respond to yourself with more clarity and compassion. Rather than trying to “fix” you, my role is to support you in reconnecting with your own sense of stability, resilience, and direction. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. Each session is tailored to your needs, whether you are working through anxiety, trauma, or a life transition. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, more in control, and more connected to yourself and your life.

  • Affordable sliding scale therapy: apply if you may be eligible.
  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale therapy spots for individuals who may be experiencing financial hardship and are unable to afford the full session fee. Barbara Clark Practice Description
I created Paloma’s Serenity Counseling to be a space where you don’t have to hold everything together on your own. Many of the people I work with are used to showing up for others while quietly carrying stress, anxiety, or past experiences that feel heavy and hard to process alone. Therapy with me is a place where you can slow down, feel supported, and begin to make sense of what you have been holding. I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, and life transitions, with a special focus on motherhood and military life. These experiences can bring unique emotional challenges, including feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. Together, we create space to process those experiences in a way that feels safe and manageable. My work is grounded in a trauma-informed approach and integrates Brainspotting and somatic-based techniques to support deeper emotional processing. I believe therapy should never feel rushed or one-size-fits-all. We move at a pace that feels right for you, with a focus on helping you feel more grounded, more aware, and more connected to yourself. My goal is to help you feel less alone in what you are experiencing and more confident in your ability to move forward with clarity and steadiness.
