Counselor/Therapist, LMHC-D, LPC
therapist: Chrissie Chua- Ly van manh,
Online in New Jersey, New York (Online Only)
I’m a therapist with over 10 years of experience helping people work through anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and life challenges across many different settings and stages of life. I bring a warm, kind, and grounded approach to my work, and I use humor when it helps create ease and connection in the room. I believe therapy should feel both safe and effective. My priority is building a strong, trusting relationship where you feel comfortable being yourself and talking about what’s really going on beneath the surface. I also value collaboration, and I welcome feedback from clients so we can shape the work together in a way that feels most helpful for you. Together, we can explore the deeper history and past experiences you may still be carrying- especially the ones that continue to impact your stress, mood, relationships, and sense of self today. At the same time, I bring structure to our work so sessions feel focused, intentional, and productive, making sure your time is used in a meaningful and thoughtful way. My goal is for you to feel more understood, supported, and connected to yourself as you move toward real and lasting change.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.

Therapy Sessions Chrissie Chua- Ly van manh Practice Description
My practice offers virtual therapy for adults seeking a supportive, collaborative, and structured space for growth and healing. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, perfectionism, burnout, relationship challenges, identity concerns, and difficult family dynamics, with a particular focus on the experiences of Asian American and Asian immigrant individuals. Although sessions are conducted virtually, connection and relationship-building remain the foundation of my work. I prioritize creating an environment where clients feel emotionally safe, comfortable being vulnerable, and genuinely understood. Therapy with me is warm and safe while also intentional and goal-oriented. My approach is tailored to each client’s individual needs, personality, and goals. I frequently integrate CBT and psychodynamic approaches, while continuing to expand my clinical work through ongoing learning and training, including Internal Family Systems (IFS). I value balancing emotional insight with practical tools and strategies that clients can apply outside of session. Clients can expect therapy to be both supportive and active. In addition to processing emotions and experiences in session, I often incorporate reflection exercises, coping tools, and homework between sessions to help clients continue building insight and momentum in their daily lives. My goal is for therapy to feel meaningful, effective, and well worth the time and investment clients put into themselves.
