Unstuck: The Art of Moving Forward in Life

Josh Dolin: Life Coach | Purpose Pathfinder

Ever feel like you’re spinning your wheels but not actually getting anywhere? Like you’re doing all the “right” things—checking the boxes, showing up, pushing through—but something still feels off? You’re not alone.

As a life coach, I see it all the time. People who are so close to breaking through but can’t quite figure out what’s holding them back. The truth? Growth isn’t about forcing change. It’s about aligning with what actually moves you forward. Let’s talk about how to do that.

Step One: Slow Down to Speed Up

You can’t fix what you don’t see. If you’re constantly rushing, overthinking, or distracting yourself, clarity won’t find you. Try this: Set a timer for five minutes and free-write everything that’s swirling in your head. No filters, no structure—just get it out. The answers tend to show up when the noise quiets down.

Step Two: Ditch the “Shoulds”

You know the script: “I should be more productive. I should have it figured out by now.” But who wrote those rules? If your goals aren’t rooted in your values, they won’t stick. Reframe it: Instead of should, ask yourself, What actually feels meaningful to me?

Step Three: Stack Small Wins

Big changes don’t happen overnight. They come from stacking small, intentional choices—ones that reinforce the kind of person you want to become. Want to be more confident? Show up for yourself in small ways every day. Want deeper connections? Start asking better questions and really listen to the answers.

Step Four: Get Uncomfortable (On Purpose)

Growth happens on the edges of discomfort. The tricky part? Your brain hates discomfort. It’ll convince you to stay safe, small, and predictable. Fight back. Do something slightly uncomfortable every day—speak up in that meeting, ask for what you need, take the leap (even if your voice shakes).

Step Five: Make Space for Joy

If you’re always grinding but never enjoying the process, what’s the point? Fun isn’t frivolous—it’s fuel. Do more of what makes you lose track of time. Play music, explore new places, create just for the hell of it. The more joy you allow in, the lighter (and more purposeful) life feels.

Final Thought: Keep Moving

You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going. You just have to be willing to take the next step. When in doubt? Move toward what feels alive. And if you need someone in your corner, helping you see what’s possible—I’m here.
