Caregiving can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be exhausting in ways that are hard to explain. You may find yourself becoming the decision-maker for a parent or partner - stepping into a reversal of roles while navigating an uncertain future. This comes with emotions you didn’t expect: guilt, anger, fear, even resentment. None of them mean you love any less. Maybe caregiving isn’t your story. Maybe it’s a loss you’re still carrying, burnout that crept up while you were busy being reliable, or an identity shifting under your feet. Grief doesn’t always wait for a physical loss. We grieve people who are still with us, versions of ourselves we’ve outgrown, lives we thought we’d be living by now. Naming what’s shared can help you feel less alone. Honouring what’s yours is how you feel understood. That’s the balance I’ve built my practice around - evidence-based psychotherapy, attuned to your circumstances, your relationships, and your lived experience

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: I offer relational, attachment-focused online therapy for adults navigating grief, caregiving, burnout, and the life changes that come with them. Many of the people I work with have spent years being the reliable one - showing up for parents, partners, kids, and work while their own needs quietly slipped to the bottom of the list. My work is about helping you step out of survival mode and into something steadier and more sustainable. Through virtual therapy across BC, Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, we work together to make room for grief in all its forms, including grief for people who are still here. We untangle the guilt, anger, and resentment that can come with caregiving, recognize the patterns that keep you running on empty, and help you reconnect with who you are outside of the roles you carry. My work is grounded in attachment and psychodynamic theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Alongside these, sessions are informed by Compassion-Focused Therapy, narrative therapy, and a polyvagal-informed understanding of the nervous system. They’re threads that appear where they’re useful: softening self-criticism, re-authoring the stories you carry about yourself, and making sense of what your body is doing under stress. The approach is never the point. You are. These are simply the tools I reach for, guided by what’s showing up for you.

Therapy Sessions Abby Tait Practice Description
It’s Not Wednesday is a virtual therapy practice for adults in BC, Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. A lot of the people I work with are the ones everyone else leans on. They’re caring for an aging parent or a sick partner, holding a family together, or showing up for work while something hard is happening at home. Often they’ve been running on empty for a long time before they ask for help.
