My name is Maureen Gallagher, and I am a Licensed Psychologist practicing telehealth in New York, New Jersey, and all PSYPACT states. I have been providing psychotherapy to adults for over twenty years.
Early in my work as a therapist, I noticed how often psychotherapy neglected the body, something my own experience told me was essential. I know firsthand how it feels to carry patterns that are hard to name, and how much changes when we learn to listen to the body with patience and compassion. That understanding shapes the way I sit with every client.
Over the years, my work has deepened through Somatic Experiencing, where I now serve as Faculty, and through Inner Relationship Focusing, which I teach. Both have shown me again and again that the body holds wisdom about what we need, and that healing unfolds most naturally when we meet ourselves with gentleness.
What I love most about this work is witnessing the moment someone begins to treat themselves with kindness, sometimes for the first time. I feel honored to accompany people as they discover a more positive relationship with themselves and a clearer sense of who they are becoming.
If you are curious about working together, I invite you to reach out. A brief conversation is often the easiest way to see if we are a good fit.

Treatment Approach
- Emotion-Focused Therapy Emotion-focused therapy supports emotional awareness and expression, helping individuals understand underlying feelings, transform unhelpful emotional patterns, and develop healthier responses to personal and relationship challenges.
- Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach integrates relational psychotherapy with somatic and embodied parts work. I believe healing happens within a safe, attuned relationship, and that the therapeutic connection itself can help repair what was missed or hurt in early relationships.
Somatic Experiencing forms the foundation of my body-based work. Together we track sensation, breath, and nervous system responses, allowing stress and trauma held in the body to gradually release and resolve. Working slowly and in small steps helps your system build capacity and resilience without becoming overwhelmed.
Inner Relationship Focusing, an embodied parts work model, helps you turn toward the different parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion. Parts that feel anxious, angry, ashamed, or stuck often carry important information about what they need. As you learn to listen to them, a kinder and more positive relationship with yourself begins to grow.
I also draw on Deep Brain Reorienting, which works gently with the earliest responses to attachment wounds and shock, and Emotion Focused Therapy, which helps you access and transform painful emotional patterns.
Each session is shaped by what feels most alive and relevant for you that day. My aim is to offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can explore at your own pace and develop a fuller, more compassionate vision of who you are.

I offer psychotherapy via Telehealth for adults through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are 45 to 50 minutes in length and take place from wherever you feel most comfortable and private, whether that’s your home, your office, or another quiet space. I generally meet with clients weekly.
I am licensed as a psychologist in New York and New Jersey. I also hold an APIT (Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology), a credential that allows me as a licensed psychologist to provide telehealth across state lines for most U.S. states. In practical terms, this means you can work with me if you live in New York, New Jersey, or any PSYPACT state, as long as you are physically located in one of those states during our sessions. If you’re unsure whether your state participates, I’m happy to check with you.
Somatic and body-based parts work therapy adapts well to video. We can track sensation, breath, emotion and nervous system responses together on screen, and many clients find it easier to feel settled and grounded in their own familiar surroundings.
To help you decide whether we’re a good fit, I offer a free 15-minute discovery call. From there, we can schedule a full initial consultation to explore your history, your goals, and how we might work together.
I am an out-of-network provider. To help you use your benefits, I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, or my office can file claims on your behalf so that reimbursement is paid directly to you. Many plans with out-of-network coverage reimburse a portion of the session fee, and I’m glad to help you understand what your insurance will cover.
