I believe one of the greatest grievances is living an inauthentic life with who you are. Regardless of what you’ve been through, if something is stopping you from living your truth - if fear prevents you from engaging in life the way you want or you are attempting to live up to some societal or personal expectation so far out of reach it hurts - If something is preventing you from living your fullest life, you can make a difference! I want to help you reach your fullest potential according to your personal truth, values and beliefs. If we embark on this journey together, you will be the driver. I will simply help you see the different paths to reaching your end goal. In the end, you must be true to yourself in choosing the path you wish to take - or none at all. Finding your truth sometimes means making a decision about whether or not to live your full truth. We can work together to help you explore your options to make the right choice for You. Psychologist, Ed.D., ABPP
Chronic Pain whether caused by accidents, injuries, diseases, aging and emotional factors robs us of opportunities for happiness and fulfillment and often impacts every aspect of our lives. I offer clients a comprehensive approach to reduce and manage pain incorporating strategies like cognitive behavior therapy, hypnosis, EMDR, mindfulness, exercise, and nutritional guidance. As a chronic back pain sufferer myself for many years, I have learned about the causes of pain and the wide variety of tools that can be used to cope, reduce and in some cases eliminate it all together. Sometimes, working with other health professionals in an inter-disciplinary manner offers the best combination of treatment. During out time together we will discuss, evaluate and decide together what might work best for you.

Roswell, Georgia therapist: Alan Brandis, Ph.D., psychologist
Chronic Pain

Alan Brandis, Ph.D.

Psychologist, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist
Typically, Chronic Pain Syndrome patients come to see a psychologist after being seen by a number of other health professionals to no avail, including internal medicine physicians, orthopedists, surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, emergency room doctors (for late-night injections of powerful pain killing drugs) and others. Typically, a Chronic Pain evaluation consists of several approaches to discovering which factors play the largest role in maintaining the pain. We ask patients to keep a Pain Diary for a week or two, which helps us pinpoint which activities or emotional states are related to an increase in pain level. This also helps us observe how they are actually taking their medications. We may also perform psychological testing to determine any underlying causes of depression or anxiety which should be treated in addition to the Chronic Pain and which could be helping to maintain it. At least one Family Session is held to explore whether there have been unconscious payoffs within the family for being in pain.

Denver, Colorado therapist: Dr. Elizabeth Coldren, psychologist
Chronic Pain

Dr. Elizabeth Coldren

Psychologist, PSYD, PSYPACT
I work with people whose lives have been shaped by their bodies in ways they did not choose. This may include serious or long‑term illness, chronic pain, complex diagnoses or diagnostic uncertainty, and the lingering impact of medical procedures and hospitalizations. For some, there is also medical trauma or other trauma woven in. For others, the ongoing symptoms themselves are what feel overwhelming. Many of the adults, teens, and children I see look like they are managing from the outside. They keep up with school, work, or family responsibilities and often minimize what they are going through. Inside, there may be fear, grief, anger, exhaustion, or a sense of watching life move on without them. I often work with people who are trying to navigate medical, school, or workplace systems that feel unsupportive, confusing, or exhausting, and to live a life that makes sense when very few people seem to understand what it is really like. My work is not general support for illness. I focus on how pain, illness, and medical experiences live in the nervous system and shape mood, relationships, daily life, and sense of self. We make space for the very real impact of ongoing pain or fatigue, adjusting to new diagnoses or changes in functioning, repeated medical procedures or hospital stays, encounters with dismissive or disbelieving providers, and the losses and changes that come with a life that is different from what was expected. Together, we work with your body’s responses to what has happened, the stress of navigating care and systems, and the question of how to move forward in a way that feels possible for you. Supporting people whose lives have been shaped by illness and pain is central to my practice, and I have deep respect for how much you carry that others often cannot see.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful, natural approach that works with your subconscious mind to reduce pain perception, manage stress, and support healing. Pain is not just physical—it has a mental and emotional component, too. By addressing it at all levels, hypnotherapy can help you experience greater relief, resilience, and peace.
