The majority of my training and clinical work has been focused on helping adults recover from early traumatic experiences. Often, the traumas my clients are working through is rooted in early relational and/or sexual experiences that leave a lasting impact on their formative developmental years and beyond. I have found that these early experiences often come with a tremendous amount of grief and loss, and I am honored whenever a client trusts me enough to openly grieve whatever it is that they've lost.

therapist: Julie Cochrane - Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) Therapist, hypnotherapist
Grief

Julie Cochrane - Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) Therapist

Hypnotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist, RTT-T, Rewind Therapy Practitioner, Integration Coaching
Grief does not follow a timeline and there is no right way to feel. Sometimes what gets stuck is not the grief itself but a belief that formed inside the loss, things like guilt, the sense that we should have done more or the fear that to move forward is to leave the person behind. RTT works gently with these specific subconscious meanings, not to bypass the grieving but to free what has become frozen alongside it. I do not replace bereavement support or counselling. I work with people who have already been grieving for a while and feel that something underneath is keeping them stuck.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline—and it doesn’t always look the way people expect. You might be holding it together on the outside while falling apart inside. You may be showing up to work, caring for others, or getting through your day just fine—until you're not. Whether your loss was recent or years ago, the weight of grief can feel disorienting, isolating, or even invisible. I work with adults navigating many forms of grief: the death of a loved one, anticipatory loss, traumatic or complicated grief, and losses that society often overlooks—like the loss of a pet, estranged relationships, identity shifts, or ambiguous goodbyes that have no closure. In a culture that often minimizes grief or meets it with discomfort, my role is to offer a steady presence and a space where your pain is valid, welcome, and never rushed. At The Momentum Practice, we’ll honor what’s been lost, make space for the full range of emotions, and work toward a sense of acceptance—not forgetting or moving on, but learning how to live with grief in a way that feels more sustainable and integrated. Whether your grief shows up as sorrow, numbness, guilt, anger, or all of the above, you are not broken—and you don’t have to carry it alone. With over 15 years of experience, I help clients move through grief with compassion, clarity, and care. Together, we’ll begin to make meaning in the midst of heartache and gently reconnect with hope, strength, and even moments of peace. I’d be honored to journey alongside you. Grief isn’t a problem to solve — it’s a story to be honored. Whether you're mourning the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, a life path you didn’t get to live, or a version of yourself that no longer fits, grief has a way of touching every part of us. I work with grief gently, without rushing it or trying to "move you on." This is a space where you don’t have to be strong, positive, or put together. Where silence is allowed. Where your pain is not pathologized. Together, we explore what’s been lost — and what still lives in you. We make room for sorrow, anger, numbness, and even the moments of unexpected peace. Grief changes you. But it doesn't mean you're broken. It means you loved. And in that, there is something profoundly human and worthy of tending.

"There's bounty, yes; but there's loss and sorrow too: like a garden, like a life." This quote from a published collection of letters between two nature-loving poets echoes a life perspective I revisit regularly. In our work together, I'll hold space so you can acknowledge, honor, and process experiences of grief and loss. Because when we open up to the inevitable pain of our human lives, we're also saying yes to the possibility of joy and connection.

Ellicott City, Maryland therapist: Stacey Hellman, licensed clinical social worker
Grief

Stacey Hellman

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-C
Sometimes a person is diagnosed with Depression but what is actually happening is a normal grieving response to a loss like the death of a loved one, divorce, illness, miscarriage or other significant event. If this is the case then we need to focus on learning about what "counts" as a loss, learning about the grieving process, and supporting the client through the ups and downs that come with it. People process losses in different ways and it's important for clients to be able to identify what their patterns are and what messages they have received from parents, religion and society about how to handle loss. Sometimes these messages really cause harm and make it nearly impossible for someone to go through all the necessary stages of grief in order to integrate the loss into their experience. When we go through a loss, it can be very difficult to think about anything else and it's common for people to engage in behaviors to try to numb emotions and avoid thinking about it. But when we avoid dealing with the loss, it doesn't just get better on its own; rather we just delay the grieving process and the repressed feelings can actually cause physical illness. Additionally, when we don't process and feel our emotions, it's impossible to actually enjoy life because we are spending a lot of energy avoiding feelings and trying to be numb. Part of my job in helping people move through grief is to give them concrete tools they can use to deal with their feelings in small chunks rather than all at once which is overwhelming.
