Wauwatosa, Wisconsin therapist: Johanna Wood, Leap Counseling and Consultation, psychologist
OCD

Johanna Wood, Leap Counseling and Consultation

Psychologist, PhD, LP
I specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD. My clients typically have tried therapy before, but have not seen much improvement. They continue living in fear, anxiety, and guilt, as their lives continue getting smaller and smaller. This is because OCD requires specialized treatment. Coping skills are great, but they can only get you so far. In fact, when it comes to OCD, they could be making things worse! The good news is, there are science-backed treatments for OCD with decades of research showing that they actually work. If you're ready to stop coping and start living, take a leap of faith and reach out. My style is structured and balances use of the latest science with compassion and understanding. My goal is to make you feel heard, and feel challenged. I serve adults with primary issues of OCD, and I also address co-occurring anxiety disorders, depression, insomnia, body-focused repetitive behaviors, and trauma, using cognitive-behavioral therapies. I address all forms of OCD, but I have a special interest in scrupulosity (religious- and moral-based) OCD. I love helping people stop letting their OCD hijack their sources of meaning and get back to having faith in faith again.

Nashville, Tennessee therapist: Dr. Stephanie Vaughn, psychologist

Dr. Stephanie Vaughn

Psychologist, Psy.D., DBT-LBC™
Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) is the way to go, here. Did you know that there is such as thing as "Pure obsessive" or "Pure O" OCD? Not all OCD involves behavioral compulsions such as counting or hand washing. Some of it is mental compulsions only! Unless you're a true expert, diagnosing OCD can be extremely difficult. Misdiagnoses can be dangerous and costly.

Dr. Patricia Webbink

Psychologist, MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology
One could say that we all need a bit of Obsessive Compulsiveness to keep our homes and lives organized, but too much of it can result in dysfunctional behaviors like repeatedly checking the stove to see if it was left on, obsessive hand-washing irritating one's skin, etc. The movie “As Good As It Gets” is an example of a man whose total existence is negatively impacted by extreme Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Check out my monthly, free, zoom seminars. Please feel free to call for further information and/or a consultation: 301-229-8000.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) counseling is a specially designed to help individuals who are struggling with the often debilitating symptoms of OCD. This mental health disorder is characterized by unwanted and intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that lead to repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). Our counseling services focus on providing varied approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), to reduce the occurrence and impact of OCD symptoms, thereby improving daily functioning and quality of life. Evidence-Based Treatment for OCD * Tailored CBT Techniques: We utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify and challenge the distorted thinking patterns that fuel their obsessions and compulsions. * Exposure and Response Prevention: ERP involves gradually exposing clients to their feared objects or ideas (exposures) and teaching them to resist the urge to carry out their usual compulsive acts (response prevention). * Skills Training: Clients are trained in stress management and relaxation techniques to help manage the anxiety that often accompanies OCD. * Mindfulness and Acceptance: Incorporating elements of mindfulness helps clients learn to accept their obsessive thoughts without acting on them compulsively. * Family Involvement: We provide support and education for families of individuals with OCD so that they can better understand the disorder and offer the right kind of support to their loved ones. Bethesda, Maryland therapist: Louisa Lombard, licensed professional counselor
OCD

Louisa Lombard

Licensed Professional Counselor, LCPC, LPCC, PPS
OCD can be mild to debilitating, and is often missed and treated as anxiety. I've found that OCD and Health Anxiety, as well as Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs, ie. skin picking, hair pulling/tweezing, nail/cuticle biting) can sometimes co-exist together. I'm trained in treating OCD through two of the primary evidence based OCD treatment modalities -Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP/ExRP). I-CBT is a newer evidence based treatment for OCD that focuses on gaining certainty versus pushing yourself into uncertainty, and is thought to be a gentler approach. There are many types of OCD and the thought-based "invisible" types are the most often missed forms of OCD, often called the "Pure O subtype" meaning that the obsessions/thoughts are there, but that the compulsions are mental and not outwardly visible, as we've come to expect from what we see about OCD in the media/social media. There are many forms of OCD, including Postpartum OCD, Relational (romantic as well as platonic) OCD, Harm OCD, Perfectionism/Just Right OCD, Contamination OCD, Scrupulosity or Religious OCD, Checking OCD, Obsessional OCD, Sexual Orientation OCD, Pedophilia OCD, and Superstitious OCD, among others. I'm trained in treating BFRBs using multiple modalities including, Habit Reversal Training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Comprehensive Model for the Behavioral Treatment of BFRB and DBT, which help to reduce the symptoms of BFRBs.
