Working through infidelity is a difficult yet common issue in long term relationships and marriages. Though it can be very difficult to regain a trusting relationship, therapy can help to heal wounds and can help couples recommit to the most important and meaningful part of life - love. We also help couples rediscover their appreciation and passion that is often lost with a betrayal - whether the affair is emotion or physical in nature.

Infidelity

Elana Blumenthal

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
As someone who works with couples, infidelity sometimes comes up as a breach that needs to be bridged in order for the couple's trust and commitment not to be completely severed in the marriage. This is a process and not a quick one, but well worth the energy and input of both people if both are committed. Helping each person be heard and each person understand the other's core and subjectivity is crucial.

Infidelity often reflects deeper emotional and behavioral patterns rather than a single lapse in judgment. I work with men seeking to understand what led to betrayal, stop destructive cycles, and rebuild integrity. Therapy focuses on accountability, emotional regulation, and addressing the underlying drivers—such as secrecy, shame, trauma, or compulsive behavior—so change is durable.

James Foley Sexual Misbehavior, Infidelity , Expert 31 Years Experience

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-R, SOTS,
I use my 31 years specialist experience in the treatment of the distorted thinking that creates infidelity, to help my clients correct that distorted thinking , and stop once and for all the self deception that creates that self destructive cheating behavior. I have helped many men learn how the part of them that told them to engage in cheating was actually very irrational, not looking out for them, and that part was was ignoring the otherwise obvious fact that their life in objective terms was actually excellent, and that they had far more to lose than they told themselves at that time of that infidelity. There is often some non-sexual thinking or strategies that also have to be corrected to decrease chances of a relapse, many times the man in question have taken strategies or styles of seeing things from some other time or part of his life , typically childhood, and that worked well for other parts of their life, and applied them later to his family or marriage, wrongly, and created problems that don't need to exist, and this can create a subjective negative view of the situation , that does not reflect the reality, that they then try to "escape" from with that infidelity. I have great success with these men, and they learn how to be faithful, plus how to value their family/marriage, and how to be truly happy in what should be a happy situation.

Infidelity rips trust. Not only is it cheating on a spouse or significant other, but the secrecy is what can tear a hole in the marriage or relationship that seems irreparable . However I know how to help couples and support them as they do the hard work of going through the phases of forgiveness, growing in understanding of themselves and each other and eventually reestablishing trust. Infidelity is more than a breach of trust - it is often experienced as trauma. Discovery can trigger shock, hypervigilance, intrusive thoughts, and a deep loss of safety. I specialize in working with individuals impacted by affairs, and relational deception using a partner-sensitive, trauma-informed approach. Rather than minimizing the harm or rushing toward forgiveness, my work prioritizes stabilization, validation, and clarity. Whether you are seeking answers, rebuilding trust, or discerning the future of your relationship, I provide structured support to help you regulate your nervous system, establish boundaries, and reclaim your voice. Healing from infidelity requires more than communication tools - it requires safety, truth, and steady guidance.

Trust is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship, and infidelity can deeply disrupt that foundation. Betrayal often brings intense emotions such as anger, sadness, guilt, and insecurity. My therapy provides a safe, supportive space for both partners to process these feelings, understand the underlying issues, and begin the work of rebuilding trust and intimacy. We explore the impact of infidelity on each partner, addressing the emotional fallout while fostering accountability, open communication, and consistent actions that restore reliability. Therapy also focuses on reconnecting emotionally and physically, helping couples rebuild closeness and strengthen their bond. Engaging in this work can lead to lasting transformation, including improved communication, deeper understanding, and more resilient relationships. My approach is affirming, empathetic, and client-centered, combining evidence-based strategies with years of experience in supporting couples through infidelity. Together, we work toward healing, renewed trust, and a stronger, healthier relationship.
