I am one of the few (only?) therapists, who understands the connection between depression and low blood sugar. Low blood sugar is an epidemic due to SAD: Standard American Diet. My protocols for fixing diet are mostly effortless. Once low blood sugar is stablized, THEN you we release and heal the root causes of the depression, most often found in childhood.

Depression is the second most common issue I treat in my practice - ranging from grief and loss, to adjustment issues with a new job or new baby, to full blown clinical depression requiring adjuvant medication. The goal is to help you understand the underlying cause (which affects the course of treatment), while also empowering you to make changes and cope differently. At its root, depression is a feeling of helplessness and powerlessness, and we play to your strengths and supports to dig you out of that feeling toward one of choice and control.

Sadness is part of the human condition. The causes of it are often more complicated than it sometimes seems at face value. Sometimes we don't have any clue why we are sad or depressed. I am here to help you talk about these feelings in a safe, empathic environment.

Not all depressive symptoms are the same.
It's important that your provider asks the right questions. Often, the label “Depression” is tossed around in popular culture as a way to describe a feeling or a mood, i.e. “I’m depressed thinking about how much work I have to do this weekend” or, “After looking at my bank balance this morning, I’m completely depressed.” While these situations CAN trigger sadness, hopelessness, and/or other unpleasant emotions, they are NOT a Depressive Disorder.
We want to help rule out chemical, physical, environmental, and other factors to help you really get to the bottom of things.

I know depression. I know its pain. I know the feeling of desperation and feeling totally disempowered and frightened that often comes with depression.
I became a clinical psychologist precisely because I wanted to learn how to help people who suffer with depression as I have in the past. It is black and it is lonely. But it does not have to be allowed to take over your life. You CAN take your life back by taking your mood back. I can show you how to begin to do it.
People too frequently say "I am depressed" when what they really mean is "I feel sad". "Depression" is a clinical disorder, and it is only appropriate to say someone is "depressed" if they meet all the criteria for depression.
Assessments of depression will measure the clinical symptoms of depression but what does it FEEL like on a daily basis? When you feel depressed, you are not thinking about the clinical symptoms, you are thinking and feeling more along the lines of just being "stuck".
In fact the experience of depression is feeling "stuck in present pain." The pain is NOW, the feeling of not being able to get out of it is NOW, and the stuck "I can't get out of this" feeling produces discouragement, frustration, sadness, very negative views of ourselves, and hopelessness--all emotions that seem to cause us to sink a little deeper every day.
I can help you get unstuck--contact me and let's begin to work to get you feeling more empowered, unstuck, moving forward again, and happier.

Psychologist, PhD
In my therapeutic approach to helping individuals heal from depression, I draw upon my expertise as a licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist to provide a comprehensive and holistic path towards recovery. One of the core techniques I utilize is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is highly effective in reshaping the way negative memories are stored in the brain. As a neuropsychologist, I focus on rewiring the brain to release the grip of negative thought patterns and facilitate the creation of new neuropathways centered around self-love, gratitude, and empowerment.
Recognizing the significant impact of repetitive thought patterns on mental well-being, I emphasize thought conditioning as a cornerstone of my approach. I empower individuals to rewire their brains for more adaptive thinking by teaching them techniques and strategies that lead to positive and constructive thought patterns. At the heart of my methodology is the cultivation of self-love, a fundamental component of mental and emotional healing.
To achieve these transformative goals, I integrate various therapeutic tools and practices, including affirmations, meditation, journaling, and self-care routines. Additionally, I possess the skills necessary to assist individuals in uncovering and addressing blind spots and underlying core beliefs that may be contributing to their depression. By guiding my clients through this comprehensive process, I aim to empower them to take control of their mental health, embrace self-love, and ultimately find their path towards a brighter, more fulfilling life.

A common feature of depression is a pervasive sense of hopelessness, which aims to protect depressed individuals from working toward change, failing, and then being disappointed. My initial goal when working with depressed clients is to foster a sense of hope and a belief in their ability to change, such that clients will feel empowered to pursue their goals and live their lives to the fullest extent.

Depression can manifest in many different ways for different people. Some are struggling to recover from a loss or setback and just can't find a way to get back to their old selves. Others may have struggled with shifting mood, confidence, energy, self-esteem, etc. for what seems like their whole lives and very few things seem to work. Many individuals used to have a full life with many rewarding relationships and activities but, at some point, what used to bring them happiness no longer does it for them. Finally, some people experience depressive "episodes" beginning in their late teens or early adulthood that appear to come and go without any trigger and feel more like a traditional "chemical imbalance." My approach to depression offers something different for individuals who have not had much success with traditional CBT and/or "talk" therapies. I utilized a combination evidence-based behavioral activities and emotion regulation skills to first restore positive experiences in your day to day life. Once short-term strategies for increasing wellbeing have been established, we will explore and process the impact depression has had across your life to further build your resilience against future recurrences of unhelpful mood fluctuations.

Psychologist, PhD, Licensed Psychologist
I have a passion for helping clients reduce sadness and depression related symptoms - so that they can live more fulfilling, authentic, and happy lives. Many of my clients struggle with recurrent depression, often impacted by their anxiety and social rejection for being different in some way (racial/ethnic minority, growing up poor, queer, trans/nonbinary, non-monogamous, neurodivergent, etc.). It can be hard to have positive self-esteem when you get so much feedback from others that being different is a bad thing.

I help individuals meet depression with understanding rather than isolation, relieve distress, and rebuild a more livable rhythm. The work is depth-informed and collaborative: we study what is happening above and beneath the surface and turn that clarity into workable steps. The aim is durable change—less heaviness, more energy and choice, and the capacity to reengage with what matters.

Depression can often lead to feelings of hopelessness, loneliness, isolation, despair and suicide ideation. It may feel that our thoughts are too powerful to reframe or manage. Therefore, our emotions take control. Through evidenced based therapy modalities, we can learn to overcome and manage depression and learn to heal by living in the present and challenging our negative internal dialogue.

Depression often feels like being weighed down by hopelessness or self-criticism. My work integrates IFS to uncover the shame and pain beneath these feelings, combined with approaches like meditation/mindfulness, somatic sensing, and interpersonal neurobiology, and existential therapies to support healing and re-engagement with life. I frequently work alongside prescribers for medication support and use thorough differential diagnosis to distinguish depression from trauma responses, bipolar disorder, or grief.
