I earned a physics PhD—almost being expelled for insubordination—and started writing business software as a consultant for IT departments at middle-sized businesses. While I was having adventures in the jungle, the arctic, the Caribbean, Mongolia, New Zealand, Europe, and Central America, I became a snowboarder, scuba diver, paraglider, and soar plane pilot.
