Counsellor/Therapist, MA, Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
"Forgiveness is the heart’s pardon. Sacred closure. When we truly forgive, we are liberated from our negative attachment to those who have hurt us. The bad things done to us are not at all condoned or excused or rationalized, but the doers of such things are no longer dehumanized by us..." - Robert Masters PhD
To walk the path of forgiveness is one of the most complex decisions and practices we can commit to. It requires the strength to value ourselves and our experiences and the courage to work through the repercussions another's actions have had on us honestly (or the impacts we have had on others)... all while holding the pain in the context of complexity, humanity and relationship. Forgiveness is a process, whether it is directed at another or at our own self. I offer clients a nuanced and sensitive session space to explore the complexity of feelings around forgiveness and the emotions associated with it. Included in this exploration, I offer tools to help you regulate your nervous system at home, experiential work to deepen insight into the situation and trauma work if applicable.

Cayla Townes, Memento Psychotherapy & Counselling
Registered Psychotherapist, RP, CCC
Forgiveness can have a lot of different meanings depending on who you talk to. I believe forgiveness is about being able to acknowledge that someone has hurt us, but not letting that hurt dictate how we think, act, or feel. This can be an incredibly difficult place to get to depending on how we were hurt. I work with people on acknowledging the hurt, processing how it has affected them, figuring out how this hurt affects their lives now, and how to move forward in a way that honours their pain while beginning to heal it.

So common because of the ability to forgive people feel happier, stay more youthful and inspired.
And so often because of the inability to forgive some psychosomatic disorders take place in the body which can lead to poor sleep, deteriorating health, unrest, anxiety, anger, shame, guilt, mixed complex feelings, codependency and even some of the worstcase life and health scenarios. It can look very sad on the inside and outside. Yet of course it can often be easy to understand how hard it can be to forgive, especially when things that happened or keep happening seem so unfair.
As in many other cases there is no single recipe. So I'd be glad to listen to your story and guide you into your inner world with the help of contemporary methods of counseling, therapy and life coaching to find a way to your true self, to the inner peace and kindness, to learn how to trust again to whoever you feel deserves it and how to set healthy borders in your relationships, how to move on and allow yourself to transform and find "the new you", which do not need any more to spend so much energy on supporting those feelings which you once felt so strongly. Maybe they did help you back then, yet it does not mean they are needed today and now. There is always a choice what to feel and you can learn how to make it.
