My philosophy is to treat people the way I would want my family or myself treated. I don't like that feeling of being rushed through an appointment and don't want anyone to feel that way with me. I believe laughter can be healing, so when appropriate, I like to infuse some humor into situations. I want you to know that your ideas and thoughts matter. Together we can tackle whatever the issue is. When working with children and teens, involving the parents as much as possible is crucial. Children and teens have a right to privacy, but keeping parents in the dark under the guise of confidentiality does not make for the best care, especially when prescribing medication. My core values of honesty, integrity, wisdom, and compassion guide my life and my practice. Approaching people with honesty and compassion helps them listen to their own inner wisdom so they can live their lives with integrity and authenticity.

Hello, If you are finding and reading places to find a therapist, It seems you are seeking support for life challenges that appear to be overwhelming, so intense you are attempting to try therapy for the first time or perhaps again. This first step is often the most important and the scariest. However, this decision will be your most supportive one for yourself, let yourself know as challenging as the events in your life are going, the intense thoughts and feelings that exist, you are reaching out through this emotional distress. Take a moment to acknowledge “I am trying”. I say this about trying, “trying is doing, doing is success” since progression for change begins with a “doing”. Often the question is asked “what kind of therapy” do you do. I have experience in many types of therapy which include CBT, interpersonal, Narrative therapy, play therapy to identify some. How I really like to discuss this question is with “the therapy needs to be fitted for the person”. Not one style fits everyone, not one single style alone will be supportive for a person. Research has continually found the most important aspect of therapy with the best outcomes is the relationship. I attempt to build on in the relationship having methods to increase the comfort for the person, with comfort the relationship grows in strength. To help with the beginning of building such a relationship, assisting in the process is what I call the meet and greet with the individual. I offer time with the individual (up to 45 mins) to meet (phone, teleconference aka facetime, zoom etc, in person at my office) and allow the individual to engage in the most important part important part of the process, the first step in finding if this possible relationship is advantageous for the person. If you do choose to spend time with me as your therapist, there is never the assumption about time in particular the next appointment. At the end of each session, I will ask how the session went for you and ask would you like to do this again. The opportunity and choice for the individual to end the relationship is at each and every meeting. I am with hope this was helpful, even if not choosing me at this time, to have given you information what you will seek even with another therapist. I do look forward to hearing from you.

Okay…but what makes me different than any other trauma expert? I understand the underpinnings of the trauma of the lived and racialized experiences of Black women. We are a group outpatient practice. We primarily treat women's issues including mood, anxiety, trauma, workplace-trauma, and interpersonal distress. I’m here to hold space for women of color who need to know it’s okay not to be okay and who want to heal from childhood, relational and racial trauma, sexual, physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, work-related posttraumatic stress and race-based trauma. Additionally, I have expertise in working with women who suffer from and/or experience birth trauma and postpartum depression and anxiety, eating disordered behaviors, and burnout and vicarious trauma for therapists, helpers, healers and first responders.
