Monika Georgieva
Registered Psychotherapist, RP
We are constantly exposed to messages about the way our bodies “should” look, which inevitably impacts how we feel and perceive ourselves. Trying to live up to others’ expectations is exhausting as is living in the shadow of shame, fear, and criticism. Within therapy, I will work with you to identify the messages and expectations that do not serve you and I will support you in discovering ways to resist their influence. I will also provide you with a safe space in which we can explore how you can build a relationship with your body that is rooted in authenticity, compassion, and respect toward the uniqueness that you hold. Registered Psychotherapist, M.Div in Clinical Counselling
Body Image is our feelings and thoughts regarding how we look. A healthy or unhealthy body image is independent of how one actually looks. It’s often affected by media, culture, upbringing and social circles.
I work with my clients on understanding the reasons behind having an unhealthy self-image while gaining awareness on what a healthy body image looks like and working towards acquiring a healthier perspective.

Having a good relationship with your body is such a challenge for so many. I know the journey well.
I work with many tools to facilitate a transformation the way a person perceives themselves.
Developing a friendly relationship with your body takes work especially if the messaging in childhood was not healthy.
We dig into the family-culture to fully unpack and understand it. We look at the self doubt, the inner self talk and the habits of self shame. I often will have clients do home exercises in between therapy sessions.
Here is an example... I have found this exercise game changing for me and for many of my clients.
Try an experiment of no longer looking in the mirror at parts of your body that lead you to deeply criticize yourself which then impacts your self esteem in negative ways. Even if you're the most amazing human being in the world, if you engage in a lot of mirror time that's all about self criticism your self-value will no longer be based on your inner value, it'll be all based on that body part that you loathe. Change your mirror time! Do it for a couple months and see how your self esteem changes. This is an experiment that I did that was highly successful and I share this with clients and they have found it very successful in terms of how they now feel about themselves and their self value.. Change your relationship to how you look at yourself in the mirror now!
