Eating disorders are marked by obsession with food or body shape. It is most common in women. Several eating disorders include bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or anorexia nervosa. Courtney Kannampuzha
Registered Psychotherapist, HBSc, MA, RP-Qualifying
Eating disorders can arise for a number of reasons including stress, self-esteem issues, body image issues, addiction, learned behaviors, genetics, etc. My approach to working with clients with eating disorders is centered on the addictive aspect of it all. More often than not, the triggers and pervasive thoughts are what contribute to disordered eating, which can ultimately result in engaging in unhealthy behaviors (e.g., vomitting, binge eating, laxatives, over-exercising) to cope with such triggers/thoughts. In other words, the eating disorder is often secondary to a primary, much larger concern. By addressing these inner thoughts that spark the behavior, healthier coping mechanisms can be established that help alter the client's relationship with food.

Hypnosis is an excellent complement to any existing medical protocol when dealing with disorders. Working with you in a non-invasive way, it can assist with identifying and resolving some of the emotional reasons behind why this issue is there and what you can do to change it.
