Worry and nerves are normal feelings to experience, however when worry and nerves start to affect daily routines for extended periods, anxiety becomes problematic. People struggling with anxiety disorders especially fear the worst as it relates to employment, health, finances, and/or relationships. This fear is persistent despite the reality of the situation.

Anxiety and stress can be ever present in the hustle and bustle of today’s society. I know first-hand how consuming these experiences can be and how much it can take to overcome them. When working with anxiety, it can be helpful to get to know the root causes of the anxiety so that we can identify and tackle it in any situation. In my work, I support clients in developing and applying individualized tools that best fit them, their lifestyle, and their experiences to manage and overcome the anxiety. Often when struggling with anxiety, there are underlying issues that fuel our fears and worries. Counselling can be helpful to explore your anxiety so that it doesn't take over and impact your whole world. It's easy to get stuck in worry and future thinking but counselling can empower you with the tools you need to cope, problem solve and break the pattern of getting stuck in a cycle of ruminating. Therapy can help you learn to understand yourself and what triggers your feelings, and better cope with symptoms related to anxiety.

What is anxiety? Anxiety is characterized by persistent and excessive worry about one or multiple things. For example, one may have an excessive amount of worry in several aspects of life (finances, career, health, responsibilities, parenting, family, household chores, etc). These worries can be major or minor concerns. Anxiety responses can be in the form of emotional or physical reactions. In small doses, anxiety can be helpful, especially when it helps protect us from danger. However, when anxiety becomes severe or happens frequently, it can become debilitating and can take over your life. Psychotherapy can learn to reduce stressors and improve coping skills. There is evidence to suggest that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be successful in helping with anxiety, as during CBT, unhealthy thinking patterns that create anxiety are identified and challenged. Two other form of therapeutic treatment that may be recommended for anxiety are Relaxation Skills and Exposure Therapy. Book an appointment today! Anxiety can grow and enable avoidance behaviors that can create harmful behavioral cycles and worsen anxiety. It is important to seek help from a mental health professional in order to alleviate your symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety is just one of the areas that LifeCycle Counselling specializes in.

Anxiety and Fear can have many causes. You can explore this, find the root cause, and treat that. Fear-based thinking can come in many forms and can affect you in a variety of ways: feeling confident, trusting yourself, worrying, anticipating, feeling socially awkward and anxious. Fear can also happen in the form of phobias that develop over time. Phobias' role is to help you manage behaviourally what's going on for you emotionally. The problem is, it leads to unwanted outcomes.

The most common form of anxiety which we treat at our clinic is a generalized variety which affects all areas of a client’s life and emotional health. Other varieties we support include individuals suffering from PTSD, OCD, panic disorders and a wide range of phobias. Untreated anxiety and fears have the potential to reoccur, so we encourage clients to seek therapy to begin their healing journey when symptoms first arise.

For dealing with anxiety, first of all, I help my clients to manage their physical symptoms of anxiety and then they are able to take control of their bodies, secondly we try to identify automatic negative thoughts and learn how to deal with them and challenge them. It is okay to have anxiety, but you need to learn how to deal with it faster.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with worries, doubts or fears? Do you feel like you are running on empty and can't turn off the running dialogue in your mind - rehashing or replaying harsh judgments and rules or past events or interactions? Maybe you are feeling burnt out, emotionally irritable, or experiencing frequent bouts of random crying. Well, you have found your tribe! I support individuals who, like you and most Canadians, struggle with anxiety and unexplained panic. When stress is unchecked or attempts to manage it become rigid expressions of control, pleasurable activities and social connections become limited and restricted, leaving one to feel isolated and alone. Working together, we will learn to compassionately transform your functional relationship with anxiety - how it triggers you and how you react. We will strive to develop a mindfully flexible approach to difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions so they have less impact and influence on your life. I aim to help you feel empowered to drop the struggle against yourself and begin to find freedom and fulfillment.
