Suicidal Thoughts

Tanya Beach

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, RP (Qualifying)
When life’s pain feels overwhelming and inescapable, it is understandable that suicidal thoughts would emerge as a response as it acts as a shield of sorts. From an emotionally focused perspective, I aim to gently explore and understand the deep emotional pain that gives rise to feelings of suicide which are often rooted in profound disconnection, emotional isolation, and a sense of hopelessness. In our work together, I strive to create a safe, compassionate space where you can express your emotions openly, without fear of judgment. At the same time, we carefully examine the emotional triggers behind these thoughts - such as feelings of rejection, worthlessness, or abandonment. We will work towards a greater self-awareness of your emotional needs and vulnerabilities through the therapeutic relationship. It can also be useful to use Internal Family Systems (IFS) as it offers a compassionate framework for addressing suicidal thoughts by exploring the various parts of ourselves that may be in conflict or distress. In IFS, these thoughts often represent a part that feels overwhelmed or hopeless. Instead of judging this part, IFS encourages us to approach it with curiosity and compassion to understand its intentions. This process can also lead us to reveal protective parts shielding us from unresolved trauma. By acknowledging and integrating these parts, we can begin to reduce internal tension and ultimately help to ease the suicidal thoughts. Laird Counselling Services

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, RP
Suicidal thoughts are a sign of depression. If you have suicidal thoughts you may find it difficult to cope with certain aspects of your life. Talking about these feelings can really help. While everyone feels a little down from time to time, suicidal ideation is an indication that you feel overwhelmed and lost in your problems. Moderate to severe depression can lead you to self-harm or suicidal thoughts. My goal is to help you feel better by discussing the things that make you feel like ending your life and turn these thoughts around with adaptive, life-affirming strategies. Contact us for a no-fee consultation to discuss our approach to helping you work through suicidal thoughts.
