Portland, Oregon therapist: Chuck Chapman, counselor/therapist
Anger Management

Chuck Chapman

Counselor/Therapist, LPC
For many men, anger is the one emotion they allow themselves to feel. It becomes the place where frustration, stress, fear, shame, and unmet needs all collect when they have nowhere else to go. You may not think of yourself as an “angry person,” but you notice irritability building under the surface, snapping at the people you care about, or shutting down when emotions run high. Sometimes it shows up as intensity, sometimes as silence, and sometimes as a slow-burning resentment that feels like it’s eating you from the inside. Most men were never taught how to understand or express their emotional lives in ways that feel grounded and strong, and so anger becomes the default. And when anger feels out of control, it can lead to guilt, distance in your relationships, or the fear that you are becoming someone you don’t want to be. My work with men around anger is not about suppressing it or shaming it. Anger is not the problem—it’s a signal. Together, we learn to slow the moment down enough to understand what the anger is pointing to: needs that haven’t been voiced, boundaries that have been crossed, emotional pain that has been ignored, or exhaustion from carrying too much alone. I help you build emotional awareness, nervous system regulation, and communication skills that allow you to express yourself with clarity rather than attack or withdrawal. You’ll learn how to stay present in difficult conversations, hold your ground without becoming aggressive, and express what you feel without losing yourself. This is about turning anger into strength—not force. Strength that protects connection rather than damages it.

Anger Management

Lesley Lacny

Licensed Professional Counselor, M.A, Psych.R, C.Psych, LPC
Anger can feel intense, overwhelming, or difficult to control, and it often shows up in ways that impact relationships, work, and your sense of self. It may be connected to stress, unresolved emotions, boundaries being crossed, or deeper underlying experiences. I offer therapy for anger management to help you better understand what’s driving your reactions—both emotionally and within your nervous system. Together, we’ll explore the patterns beneath anger, while also identifying practical ways to respond more effectively in the moment. The goal is not to suppress anger, but to understand it, regulate it, and use it in a way that supports clearer communication, healthier relationships, and a greater sense of control.
