Ellyn Kravette
Counselor/Therapist, MSW, LSW, CADC, CEAP
Trained in addiction counseling at South Oaks Institute in Amityville, NY, the family system and it's lack of boundary setting has been a fundamental focus of my professional work both in corporate settings and my individual PsychoSpiritual practice. Truly caring for others begins with self-respect, self-appreciation and choices for mutual good. The ability to hear ourselves in a society which is constantly trying to manipulate us can be very confusing. PsychoSpiritual Counseling offers a safe space to explore and find the truth of who we are and who we chose to be.

Codependency develops over years and interferes with both self esteem and relationships with others. In therapy, we explore core beliefs which contribute to codependency and strategies to challenge these perceptions.

Dr. Kimberly L. Rehak
Counselor/Therapist, Ed.D., M.A., BCBA-D, CAC, BC-TMH, CCTP, THP, Practitioner/ Specialist.
Attachment disorders, including codependency, are very common in enmeshed family systems and also in individuals coping with trauma, its effects, as well as with individuals who might be lacking balance or boundary awareness in their lives. Attachment and bonding difficulties were one of my areas of practice, professionally. This stated, shifting to a state of "oneness and constant contact with God" can help individuals find the peace they are seeking. The art and science of attaching and detaching are taught to clients using advanced psycho-educational approaches and models/ modalities. By teaching the concept of "oneness", these states can also be healed more easily so less anxiety regarding separation occurs and more healthy, positive, stable relationships with self and others can be achieved and maintained, over time.

HUGH R STEWART III
Hypnotherapist, Ph.D., ACHt.
Codependency is another specialty of mine in being a people pleaser. If you are looking to find someone to complete you, you probably have codependent qualities. Codependent people find their self esteem through helping others often at ones own expense. Codependency is all about looking outside ourselves for answers/happiness instead of inward. Happiness and all of our answers to our questions lie within if we can become still enough to listen to our intuition. Successful relationships are more interdependent where we both have our lives, interests, friends, family, etc. and intersect with our partners when we are doing something together. Many of my clients have gone to Codependents Anonymous, ACOA, Alanon, etc. These are safe spaces to explore more interdependent and independent ways of being and share our experiences without being judged. There are many great books on codependency. I teach people how to become your own person not needing approval from others and celebrating your interdependence with one another when in relationship.

Erika Barrington
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, BC-DMT
Codependency is something I'm deeply familiar with — both professionally and personally — and it's one of my greatest passions to work on with clients. At its core, I think of codependency as a struggle with interdependence: being connected to others while still remaining a separate person with your own needs, feelings, and limits. It often shows up as putting others' needs first, tying your own wellbeing to someone else's, or feeling compelled to fix or manage another person's pain.
Trauma and neurodivergence can both quietly set us up for these patterns — when your needs have been dismissed or overlooked, it makes sense that you learn to deprioritize them. One of the most powerful early steps is just naming what's been happening: education alone can feel like you're finally getting a map of your inner life. From there, we do the real healing work with whatever we discover. For clients who are open to it, we may also explore peer support options, including 12-step communities organized around codependency recovery — though this is always entirely your call.
