Social Anxiety and Social Anorexia cases have had documented increase with lower practice of intimacy in our current culture. In addition, social isolation registers in the same part of the brain that processes pain and we are biological beings that need social engagement for health and stasis. CPTSD and intensive health needs can contribute to a sense of growing isolation or challenges with over stimulation, limiting social interactions. There could be grief due to that or ease if it aligns with a neurobiology that doesn't prefer social interactions in person. There are many creative ways to connect these days. Utilizing Havening, Brainspotting, Polyvagal Theory, Safe and Sound Protocol, IFS, Attachment Theory, and optionally Energy Work to address adrenal fatigue, clients may stretching into experiences of more social engagement and working through trauma or anxiety along the way. This work combines a sensitive understanding of social systems and the pressures that come with adapting to them. Additionally, clients can gain safe practice with communication utilizing NVC and other communication and relationship models.

Ruth Mark-Roland Psychotherapy

Registered Psychotherapist, Post Grad Diploma in Psychotherapy, Foundation and Diploma in Group Analysis
I offer support for social anxiety, including fear of judgment, self-consciousness, overthinking social interactions, and avoidance of situations where you feel observed or evaluated. Social anxiety can often lead to feelings of isolation, exhaustion from “masking,” and a constant concern about how you are perceived by others. My approach is grounded in psychoanalytic and relational psychotherapy, offering a steady and non-judgemental space to explore both the present-day experience of anxiety in social situations and the deeper emotional and relational roots that may underpin it. Together, we may look at early attachment experiences, internalised beliefs, and past relational dynamics that shape how safety, visibility, and connection are experienced with others. I work in a trauma-informed way, recognising how experiences of criticism, rejection, bullying, or emotional misattunement can contribute to ongoing social anxiety and sensitivity in relationships. Therapy provides a space to gently explore these experiences and begin to shift the internal patterns that maintain anxiety over time. I also integrate somatic awareness to help you notice how anxiety shows up in the body, such as tension, breath restriction, or nervous system activation, supporting greater grounding and regulation in moments of stress. Psychoeducation may be used to increase understanding of anxiety processes, and where appropriate, I may incorporate EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques / tapping) to support emotional regulation and reduce intensity in anxious states. Therapy is collaborative and paced according to your needs, helping you develop greater confidence, ease, and self-compassion in social situations, and a more secure sense of self in relation to others.

Social anxiety is more than shyness. It's a fear that does not go away and affects everyday activities, self confidence, relationships and work or school life. Many people occasionally worry about social situations, but someone with social anxiety feels overly worried before, during and after them. I can work alongside you to activate strategies to help you and also to explore with you any underlying self-belief and possible depression.

Social Anxiety

Emma Poxon

Counsellor/Therapist, MA Person-Centred Experiential Counselling
Social anxiety can feel completely overwhelming, like there's no way out. As your therapist I am here to be with you in your anxiety reminding you that you are not alone. We can explore how social anxiety feels for you, when it is at its worst, and help you to gain more of a sense of control over this. You are not a problem to be fixed, my aim as your therapist is to try to provide the right conditions to allow you to explore whatever you want to bring to therapy to support your growth. This isn't a therapeutic approach wherein I will set a treatment plan or tell you what to do. We will work together as a partnership rather than me taking away your autonomy. I absolutely love the work I do, it is the biggest privilege being let into people’s personal worlds and seeing the immense growth of my clients. I hope to hear from you soon!

It’s not that you’re bad at connection—some parts of you just don’t feel safe in it. If social situations leave you feeling anxious, self-conscious, or like you constantly need to monitor how you show up, you’re not alone. Social anxiety often stems from parts of us that carry past experiences of rejection, embarrassment, or not being accepted for who we are. Through Internal Family Systems (IFS), I help you gently connect with these protective parts, understand their fears, and begin to unburden the beliefs that keep you stuck in self-doubt. Together, we create space for confidence, authenticity, and the kind of connection that feels safe and real.
