Oshkosh, Wisconsin therapist: Dr. Chiara Simeone-DiFrancesco, psychologist
Relationship and Marriage Counseling

Dr. Chiara Simeone-DiFrancesco

Psychologist, PhD
This is my favorite specialty. I have been working with relationships and Connect-Talk since 1974, and I wrote the first textbook on Schema Therapy with Couples, published by Wiley - Blackwell, with two of my colleagues. I train other therapists internationally in this venue, and practice it both online and in person. I have many resources on my website that can encourage you. Believe me, you haven't "tried everything", as you probably have not tried Schema Therapy and you haven't tried me! Challenge yourself to not give up and not to give in to the prevalent culture of hopelessness. There is more good that can happen than you think, and people aren't zebras. We have many, many examples of people changing their lives and their characters. But, you do really have to work at it. You and your children are worth the work and focus. Why not give this approach a try!

Reston, Virginia therapist: Dr. Ken Newberger, counselor/therapist
Relationship and Marriage Counseling

Dr. Ken Newberger

Counselor/Therapist, Conflict Resolution Specialist
I have been working in the field of conflict resolution for over two decades. In 2013, I shifted my focus to working exclusively with couples. Since that time, I have interacted at a deep level with over a thousand people from all walks of life. ~~~~~ According to the National Institute of Health, "there are over 400 varieties of psychotherapy." This is a dizzying amount. I integrate three practical approaches when working with couples. They are: (1) Attachment Theory. More recently, it has been dubbed, "The Science of Love and Attachment" because of over 50 years of research that all points to one inescapable conclusion: "Human beings are born to bond." (2) The Gottman Method. Given his scientific study of thousands of married and committed couples, Dr. Gottman's decades of published findings have provided a wealth of practical data about what works and does not work when it comes to maintaining or rebuilding relationships. His most recent book (published in 2024 with his wife, Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman), "Fight RIght: How Successful Couples Turn Conflict Into Connection," is but the latest example. (3) Solutions Focused Therapy. This too is very down-to-earth in its orientation toward helping couples resolve conflict. Dr. Michele Weiner-Davis put it like this: "Is what I am about to do going to bring me closer or move me farther away from my [marital] goal? If the answer is 'closer,' then by all means, stick with your plan. If the answer is, 'farther away,' stop. Do not proceed. Do something different instead." ~~~~~ These three approaches undergird much of my work with couples. But like all great painters who have learned the fundamentals of their craft, they must express what they know through their own mind's eye. So it is working with couples. That is why have developed an initial "Testing the Waters" session. It allows you to make sure you are personally comfortable with me before proceeding. For more information and a complete description of my step-by-step process, go to the "Process and Pricing" page on my website.
