She is experienced in providing services for individuals from the 2SLGBTQI+ community and is committed to providing culturally sensitive treatment for all clients. Dr. Burgess has experience providing therapy for a range of clinical concerns including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image concerns, self-criticism, perfectionism, assertiveness, communication skills, and difficulties forming relationships with others (including both peer and romantic relationships).

Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
Approach Description: Dr. Burgess has experiencing in providing evidence-based therapy approaches including mindfulness and self-compassion approaches, radically-open dialectical behaviour therapy (RO-DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). She will work with you to identify the approach that is the most suitable for your needs and preferences.

Education: Dr. Burgess completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She later completed a one year post-doctoral degree as a clinical researcher at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where she examined the impact of mindfuness interventions for anxiety and depression.
