We also incorporate mindfulness practices to enhance present-moment awareness and emotional regulation, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression. Our relational approach fosters a therapeutic alliance based on empathy, understanding, and trust. This approach not only helps in alleviating the symptoms but also focuses on building resilience and empowering you to lead a fulfilling life. We work collaboratively to identify and reinforce your strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and foster a sense of hope and optimism. Depression, hopelessness, powerlessness, loneliness, dead inside. Having a reliable and trusted relationship to provide support when we believe no one can bear to be with us can make the difference. We can begin to feel we're worth the time, the effort, that we matter. Eventually, with patience, what we feel (or can't feel) can begin to make sense. A sense of connection and agency can return.

Anger turned inward, often results in depression. Yes there are bio chemical causes for depression, but in my 25 year plus experience, depression is almost never simply a brain chemistry issue. And as a holistic psychotherapist, I find that people who have mild to medium depression can often overcome it with a combination of talk therapy, unpacking family of origin messaging, unpacking low self value as well as inner exploring of believes.. All this, in addition to bringing in natural amino acid supplementation. This combination has been immensely effective in neutralizing the beast that depression can be. Note: If a client has suicidal ideation, a person does need to have a medical person on their team to navigate possible allopathic medication to create the very important brain balance they need to be able to unpack some difficult therapeutic content.

We need to be engaged in a full life to feel our very best, and due to motivation, mood, and lethargy, depression often takes that away from us. Healing underlying hurts that may be impacting mood, connecting with meaningful activity, and purpose and learning to be kinder to ourselves can also help us move past a depressive episode, towards living a full, whole-hearted life. Our therapists can help you discover and develop your version of a happy and healthy life.

When it comes to depression, I believe that small change leads to bigger change. In my work with clients who experience feelings of depression, I take a more concrete, solution-focused approach and aid clients in taking small steps towards a greater goal, all while soliciting strengths and resources and moving at the client’s pace. In doing so, my hope is to help clients see how capable they are and transfer this knowledge into other domains of their lives. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to ensure we are a good fit.

Our work will be based on establishing a trusting and supportive relationship between you and I; it will include me getting to know your current and past circumstances, symptoms, medical history, your interpersonal experiences. We will want to identify and explore any underlying, perhaps previously unconscious to you factors contributing to your suffering. We will want to empower your ways of coping, which have proven helpful, as well as new more adaptive thoughts and behaviour to alleviate your symptoms and to improve your well-being.

An important thing to remember when facing depression is that it is moveable, changeable. Depression, in my experience, can change with processing what has happened in your life and understanding your response to the impact it has had on your life. It often involves processing that which takes place between the trigger and then the natural response to avoid/get rid of or push away the pain. With a little help the awareness of feeling state can be understood; often it has to do with our relationships and learning how to stick up for ourselves and repair. This is where Mindfulness and Meditation comes in and also self-compassion. For more on self compassion; see Chris Germer and also Kristen Neff.

Registered Psychotherapist, MA, RP
Depression is a result of non-processed grief, which itself comes from a sense of loss. It is the mechanism through which the mind tries to “take it easy” and focus on the loss. However, in today’s society, we do our best to avoid it or even deny it. Sometimes, we take the easy way of medication so that we do not face this darkness inside. A successfully therapy accompanies the client through this journey of introspection and creates supportive environment in which the client faces the loss. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.
