First Step Men's Therapy was created with one purpose: help men across Ontario lead healthier, happier, more connected lives. Many of our clients come to us feeling lost, broken, powerless, isolated, disconnected, and distracted. Many men try to get better on their own, only to stumble further. Our goal is to work with you to learn more about yourself and develop the tools, resources, and awareness needed to grow, heal, and live. Whether you are struggling with addiction, trauma, grief, anger, anxiety, depression, shame, depression, or any other mental health challenge, we are here to help.

Treatment Approach

  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Schema Therapy Identifies deep-rooted negative patterns formed in childhood. It combines CBT, attachment theory, and experiential methods for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

  • Average Session Fee $150+
  • Affordable sliding scale therapy: apply if you may be eligible.
  • We have an affordable therapy program run by Masters level students that are Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) members with rates starting from $50 + HST per session. The first session is free (80 minute intake/assessment) and free 20-minute consultations are provided.

  • We do not direct bill, however, many clients use insurance through their private coverage. A receipt is provided after every session for your submission.
